"While fishermen say they are worried about the Gulf spill, they are just as fearful that any harm is being hyped by environmentalists to justify stricter regulation."

- sums it up for me.

While there is probably issues the motives of a lot of these people, there probably is a kernel of truth to it, no? If the oil spill occurred in the Hudson or Ches. we'd be concerned over S-B spawning for that year class, no? But given the volatile and storied battle over BFT do we dismiss it as greenie-leftist-faggy arm-waving...

(This is not a post to advocate a reactionary response, just trying to provoke some discussion)

What happens if during the clean-up the seine up a bunch of larval/very juvenile BFT.....

This spill will have major ramifications!! No doubt. Will it really effect the BFT in the Northeast? I do not know and doubt that scientists really know the answer either. Either way, not the point. It does not take a psycho lefty to realize that this is HUGE and will negatively effect many species of birds, fish etc in that area.

oil cannot mix with water....
so it suspends itself within it
in the form of MICRO droplets
and to the naked eye
the water looks clear....
but in reality it is not

this suspended oil will travel
around as it pleases

i hear ya EBEN

i totally laughed when i read....... yesterday
British Petrolleum saying that clean up efforts
will continue into the fall....

sh1t ....you be cleaning up for the next decade
or you can keep all your damn fuel

I got a good laugh this morning when I read that they didn't close all the relief valves on the cap because with only one valve closed, it exceeded the 15000 barrel/day capacity of the ship it was attached to and they refuse to let anyone attach flow measurement devices to it.

This was a monster oil reserve and the flow is far greater than anyone has suggested. The oil may flow up the east coast in another month or so is my guess. They really should have nuked it (yes, I know the ramifications) shut weeks ago...

But they are totally liable for the clean up, so why would they lie. They aren't going to save themselves any $$$ by it.
