GPS-depth finder-fish finder

I have a little Mako that I want to toss a moving map deal on.

This is more to keep myself out of trouble when out running around at night. I grew up on the water in the area I use the boat but just want to be safe

Suggestions please.

As Niko said the Garmins are very user friendly. I have had the 172C for a few years now. When I got it it was recently discontinued. If your budget is tight check ebay. Go to the Garmin site and you can see what has been recently discontinued which makes the price go down.

But I think the best about Garmin is that it is friendly enough that you don't have to look at the manual to figure it out.

I have a garmin 5 series i think its 545 . Had to up date the unit because it wasnt keeping up with the speed of the boat . $40 bucks for the sd card or free online but i dont know how to do that . It comes with a 50/200 transducer but i dont get the Arches of fish like you see on Tv or in the infomercials .

Not sure what I will spend.

I know I want something good and won't be afraid to spend the money.

I will look at what's been suggested so far.

Check out this post from buzz....got a bunch of rebate forms in it that may help you decide......save you upwards of a couple of hundred bucks too.

For the money, that Lowrance Elite 7 bassballer recommended is very nice. I got to play around with one recently and I liked the features a lot.
Also nice is the Garmin 740S. I have this unit and it also pack a lot of features and they just dropped the price of them. Not quite as low as the Lowrance though.

Love our Raymarine, they have come out with a ton of great small units over the past couple of years, I beleive they now have one you can take off your boat like a tablet, should check them out as well.

I have a used Garmin color finder/chart plotter, for the life of me I can't recall the model. I was keeping it for a spare, but I probably will never use it, if interested I'll dig it out and post some pics and specs. It would probably be fine for what you are looking for.
