Two more works in progress...
Took these two down to one of my favorite outflows yesterday evening just after the tide began to drop. Each are made out of 3/4" stock.
The swimmer is made from a piece of mahogany, 6" body, square lip. The belly weights area just under.25 ounces. I started with two and it wouldn't sit upright, so I cut a .25 weight in half and straddled the weight by teh belly hook. She swam with what I think is a nice wobble/roll, pivoting pretty much at the head of the bait, with a slightly nose down attitude. I'm not sure yet how deep it's going to run. Probably length of cast dependant and attitude of my rod tip, up or down. When I cranked it hard it would begin to dart erratically, roll almost on to it's side, but not roll out. I could jerk it. Pop it down and it would sort of turn back in itself and pop back up to the surface. I kind of liked that. This one was the most successful of the two.
The glider is maple about 7.5" long. Belly weights are.57 ounces each. I thought I had this one balanced okay, but when I put it in the outflow, it sank nose down. I could still get it to glide somewhat, maybe 18" and do a sub-surface walk the dog but it was inconsistent. It felt like I was always fighting to keep the nose up. I'm going to drill out some of the lead in the nose so it will sink level or slightly nose up. Hopefully, that will get it gliding more. I'm going for a nice 3' glide, like my topwater spook.
