Good weather news?

I don't know if this is good news or not. I guess it depends on where you are.

Last report I heard is saying this next really big storm is likely to be rain in RI. Perhaps heavy rain. They are saying temps at 36 to 40 degrees. I know some are bothered by flooding but where I am , we just don't need any more snow for a lot of reasons. Rain at 40 degrees will melt a lot of the existing snow and maybe get us back to somewhat normal. This forecast could change of course as its just now they have changed from heavy snow to heavy rain.

Looking good here in Newport for now.

Latest update is saying very little accumulation but forecast discussion still makes the point to say "it's a tricky forecast".

Who knows what the weekend storm will bring...

I'm guessing it's about 60 degrees in my truck.

Biggest concern of that forecast should be the added weight to roofs. The snow already packed up there will act like a sponge. An inch of water could add enough to push the snowload designs of many roofs. Most are designed to hold 40#/sq ft, and this will push much of the area above 30#/sq ft....

I'm flying in tomorrow afternoon so rain is fine by me. The drive to TFGreene this morning really sucked.

I'm not sure there's so much snow that roof weight will be an issue where we are. If it's heavy it will probably just melt the snow pretty quickly...

Radar shows this about over in RI. I only got about an inch or two and there didn't asppear to be any heavy rain periods.

I'm not complaining!

Temps just dropped 14 degrees in the past hour here. Things kid of got too firm to do any more removal. The rest will have to wait. Got most of my jobs done. Only one with bad ice, but the rain is over, so the threat of it flooding into the house is over. I will be chipping that deck and stairs when we get a thaw. One flat roof left to shovel tomorrow. And a couple calls with a ladder for ice dams that have water pouring into houses. God's stimulus package for some.......

Freezing up the slush solid now in preparation for more snow Sat and Tuesday!

I once went out during a freezing rain period when I lived in Worcester. My street was a level street off a big hilled main streat. When I left my street and turned left up the hill , the car came to a stand still with the wheels spinning. When I stepped on the break , the car started sliding down the hill backwards (that's a scary feeling!) . i had to keep the wheels spinning to stay in place. I ended up letting it roll slowly backwards until the rear wheels hit the curb behind me. this got me to about 45 degrees to the hill. I then went forward (wheel driven) and sideways (sliding) until I was 90 degrees then I gunned it to get across the street to the level side streat I lived on. I parked the car and walked to the puizza parlor where I had already ordered the food before realizing is was so slippery out. When I got into the pizza place , I unzipped and shook a big layer of ice off the outside of my coat.

I fortunately got the driveway in time. Bluetooth conf calls help. I just have to shut down the motor when I have to talk

Saw one yesterday run out from under my truck when I went to get into it.

Looks like a lot more rain coming for tomorrow that should melt somemore of the white stuff. Looks like its time to put the ice fishing gear away.
