clemmens book

what a great book, last night i read the chapter on guides. lots of info i missed the first read through. what a critical step it is in a true custom rod, the cone of flight theory and the gradual choking of the line through out the guides or the higher mounted smaller dia. butt guide doing most of the choking, and line slap, static test all kinds of good info. helped me alot.

It's a pretty good book - I read it cover to cover 3 times before attempting my first rod...

I built my first 5 rods straight from info I read in the 3 Clemens' books. Some of the info is a bit outdated (specifically the finish section), but there is just so much in there about every aspect of rodbuilding you'd be crazy to try and build a rod without it.

Clemens books are the barometer for which all others are to be measured against. There is another book out there I beleive is easeir to understand for someone just starting out.
Its by Tom Kirkman. He has the rodbuilding.org site and publishes Rodmaker Magazine, a fine publication.
My 2 cents

Yea....Clemmens thread art book is great too lots of patterns...In that advanced book there is a section that teaches you how to weave in letters if you want to put your name or whatever, woven in the thread on the blank. Its really easy to do and seems to impress people...Clemmens custom grip material was awesome stuff...I miss them...too bad there gone.

Tagger what do you need? I mistakenly thought they were gone, so I ordered a TON of 18" square stock Black size 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4. I think I have 50 pieces.

Then I find out Custom Tackle Supply is supposed to carry it. Then I find out #^&#^&#^&#^& French will be carrying it when he opens his supply shop next month.

I think me and Greg are going to order some Bernie's Strips. Anyone here is interested in those & has bandsaw?

As far as instructions, the only site I know is Ken Preston's. I'm sure there is someone on teh Cape that likes you and wil help you out if you gave them a couple of plugs, no? IF we lived closer, I'd trade some how-to plug making for a butt wrapping lesson (don't get gay on me here) It's very hard to explain over the internet, that's why you're not getting the responses you need.

Billy He was Pissa , I snapped that rod and ripped the tip off and went nuts. they would Hit a darted then stop then a needle then stop, awsome bar and I was dragging the yellow Tattoo darter over it. I lost the darter later in the year. If I had an option I would take the plug and snap the rod
Ken Was looking at me digging it, We was truly Nuts.
It was great.
I went to that same spot with the blankl that replaced that blank and snapped it on the 9th or 11th cast no bs.
I think the rainshadow 1087 smokes the 1083
