Hand carved wood?

I want to make some bomber style hand carved lures

what type of wood do you all use?

I'd try basswood, with a metal lip. Float it after you seal it and compare it to an original. Add weight to get it to float the same.

Thanks, I don't have a band saw so it will be all with knifes and sand paper,

i have been playing with the hand carved stuff and figured its got to be easer than sand paper so i went to the depot and got a small hand planer.
just becarefull of your finger tips lol.

Bob, pick up a coping saw to rough out the bodies with. You can get 1 at HD for about $7.

White pine works well for me. I've also used red and white cedar, but they need more lead than the pine. Plus pine is cheaper so it don't hurt as much when I need to throw the duds in the fire.

Bob .. I got a ton of beach chair slats... maple .. swim great ,, very little weighting ,, seal well ..Those inexpensive ($100)bandsaws are a real time saver ,,

try again ... take saltys basswood too ... good stuff to carve ,, better than maple..
