I know Lowrance/Eagle have units under $400. Eagle has a B&W for around $250.

I was going to do a combo unit but decided on doing a ff and then a hand held gps that way I can bring the gps into my computer for plotting and also use if for land nav during hunting season. For a ff I picked up a Humminbird 565 for $180.00 at #^&#^&#^&#^&'s and then they have a $30.00 rebate. For a handheld either a Garmin Vista hcx or a Garmin Colorado 400c, still haven't decided which yet.

I have Eagle 240 Gps combo unit now that I like alot. It was around $250. I have had Humminbirds in the past and have had numerous problems with corrosion in and around the connectors despite using dielectric grease. I even had to replace a transducer that got corrosion inside the cable end of a molded on connector that actually ate the shield/ground and drove me nuts for months and would always fail on me when I was about half way through a trip. Life's too short for stuff that doesn't work when you need it to. The only drawback to my unit if this is one (never having owned a GPS) is having to learn all the features available and being able access the info readily what with all the other stuff going on (like hauling fish).
