Snow season 2017

Here we go.... At least it is supposed to be light and fluffy. I am planning on dealing with it all in one pass, tomorrow. I am in the 8-12" forecast area. We'll see...

I know I just put the blower away last spring with zero maintenance. So will be changing engine oil this morning. Love the old 1970 Ariens with cast gear box. Just keep the oil clean in the repower Sno King engine and it has treated me right

Good luck to all in this first significant snow of the year.

I'm in south Plymouth near the coast, we are in the 12"+ zone and I ran the snow blower to clear the 4" we got yesterday and put some fresh gas in. I might not move any snow today, unless the town puts a lot in front of my driveway, which is my biggest problem. My driveway is pea stone and 4 cars wide right off the street, not your traditional driveway, but it's not fun when the town plows and its wet. Wish the girlfriend had opted for paving it, the pea stone is a bitch to clean up in the spring.

I rake half my driveway out of the grass and back into the driveway every Spring. The sound of the gravel going through the snowblower is an unnerving sound to say the least.

Exactly how big a driveway do you have?If it took me 3+ hrs to snow blow my driveway I'd sure as hell have a plow on my truck too!

I just came in from doing the first 5" since my snowblower is a half a snowblower and well worn. While I was out there it snowed another 1-1/2". I hope we don't get hammered too badly here, I think I will need to do another 2 shifts at this rate. Good thing is I put the wife's' car in the shop and my truck on the grass so one less thing to deal with

Light and fluffy means squat when it's drifted 4 feet deep. We got almost 20" and I guess I can skip the gym workout today. Cleared the ground under four feeders, I swear there must be two dozen cardinals alone, hundreds of birds have moved in. I find it so odd that they would be taking baths in our heated bird bath, I would think they would turn into a block of ice on moving off.

Now add some rain to that snow and you'll have wet heavy slop.

That is, for as long as it lasts with the temps we're due to get.

At least we're getting some much needed rain to lower our drought conditions for later this year.

I am a legend in my own mind!

Unbelievable how much snow we lost overnight in Plymouth, hope the sun takes away the rest so I can get the golf clubs out again. If not I'm thinking road trip with a rod in hand to see if I can scare up some winter hold overs somewhere.

Get a pair of SBS skids to replace the stock ones. They raise the blower 1 inch above the gravel, and are longer to go over uneven spots. Run about $38 a pair and well worth it to stop gravel pings and no need to rake in the spring.

The 1970 Ariens 724 has been a workhorse again this season. Have only had to replace the impeller kit for maintenance so far. Definitely due for an oil change. If we have a window of no snow in the long term forecast I may see if the trusted service shop, Maestranzi Brothers, can take it in for overhaul/service. Some heavy stuff moved today and over the past three years since its last major service.
