Remember When......

Remember when the only times the News would interrupt with "Breaking News" was when it was something really important like an earthquake or a fire or a jetliner crash??? Now they break in all day long with everything from stabbings and shootings to bank robberies!!! Please!!!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Just shows how much of an interconnected world we live in.....way back (if you really want to remember when) it took over a month to get news from one side of the US to the other, damn slow ponies!

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

We live in an OVERconnected society.
We expect instant updates, instant gratification and instant results.
We get mad if we have to wait a munite for minute rice, instant coffee is too slow, and the new mantra is "If you wanted to get it sooner, you should have done it yesterday!"
We live in such a drastically overconnected world that we don't even have time to make a telephone call. We can't even take the time to spell out our conversation, let alone spell it correctly. We have driven ourselves up against a wall of technology, and if that technology should ever fail, we will be doomed. No one knows how to actually "do" anything these days.....They have a "app" for it so they don't have to know "how" to do it, they just push a button.

I may be starting to look like a dinosaur to me neices and nephews, but I do know how to do a lot of "manual" things, and they are fun, entertaining, and don't cost an arm and a leg. Even better, there isn't a new edition being released every year (or so) so I don't have to upgrade whatever. I almost seem to welcome power failures, because then I am in control.
No tv, no Iphone, no Ipad, no video games, no electronic distractions whatsoever. Aaahhh, total bliss!

not only that

but people who didn't grow up with it
i'm speaking now about cursive writing....

they have no idea what the squiggles mean in some instances
let alone even know how to write with a pen and make them

it all has no meaning in the digital texting age....

or watch a novice try to use a spade
and he'll have it broken within 30 minutes or less

then instead of saying we'll go get another HANDLE
they will just buy a brand new one and break that one

We've now moved beyond BC/AC on the calendar, now its BW/AW (before / after wireless)! Its was really nice BW without cell phones, Blackberrys, Droids, iPads, etc....

BTW: when was BW so I can reset my calendar years! Can't be in more than calendar year AW 50 vs AC 2011?

I see all these people texting and on the cell
phone 24/7 and wonder when do they get any peace.
It's crazy, their life is consumed by chatter.

Except for a computer and cell phone i keep in the car for emergencies,
i got nothin.

BigFish - The media sucks. I agree and all it does is desensitize us. I'm not that old but remember when breaking news used to really be an important event where you would stop and listen, now it's background chatter.

As for all the other posts. I agree as well but don’t you think it's a bit ironic that this discussion is going on right now.
Dad Fisherman, I agree with you 100% but you have almost 11,000 posts! That’s over connected (Raven has over 15,000!) We all log on daily over the internet using wireless computers and smart phones where we can all instantly gratify our connectives. It’s almost hypocritical that we all complain about this technology but let it consume us and have a love/hate relationship for it. We go online daily and blog away and this is how most of us communicate. I’m sure my great-grandfather thought the radio was an evil distraction to my grandfather. I’m sure my Grandfather thought the TV was an evil distraction to my Dad. I’m sure my Dad had the same concerns about Cable TV, and Video Games. I think about my young children and wonder how this will affect them and what will be invented to distract them when they are old enough to use it. I guess it is the circle of live………

Balance is the key. Technology here and there and a little manual labor and face to face communication is what is needed.

speaking of ironic

we had to adapt to "this" communication that utilizes no inflection of voice when we all typically have land line phones that sit there idle in case you need to use it....besides having cell phones...and this medium
is the preferred one (method) or way because we can express ourselves and be heard or read without interference or interruption at least on our end of things as we type away.

we also can be humorous and do artistic things via this medium
such as plug porn....for example, and share it,,,or even our favorite utube video and set the mood.

thats! a lot more of a creative interchange of ideas.....
like right now  i could use some freakin double rainbow
glass attack photos from NEBE ...heh heh heh

Kinda hard to unplug for me....I've been in IT for over 25 years....doesn't mean I can't yearn for it.

also, ever wonder why a large portion of people here on this board, who are in the IT Field, Fish like they do.........the necessity to unplug is even greater when you spend a lot of your time in front of a screen.

Why do you think I love Cutty so much...I can sit on a deck for 4 hours and do....nothing

I was pissed off for months (kind of still am) when WLVI 56 10:00 pm news was taken over by channel 7 a few years ago.
56 news was straight forward, no flash news cast.
Channel 7 is non stop "This just in" "heard here 1st" "Only on 7" ect.............. crap.
NECN is a lot more straight forward news.

Ya Larry,
Pisses me off seeing that guy from that #^&#^&#^&#^& hole city on the news all the time.
Why don't they spend equal time promoting good families from good towns with parents busting their asses making good homes & lives for their kids and family !

Hey Larry,
Your buddy John Romano is on the news tonight (whats new)
Armed robbery in Lawrence today, there will no doubt be another one tomorrow
At 1st I thought the tiny nuclear device comment was a bit harsh, but maybe you got a good point there !

Did you see Chief Romano walking out the hostage taker the other day with the SWAT guy. Looking over at the camera, too much. Guy must have an air brush to keep his liquid tan looking that good or a tanning bed. I am amazed he hasn't run for office.
