Sunday report, 80 or so miles

It's easy not to give away spots with this report because we lost gps.

Was out on sunday, but never got the tuna gear in the water. the plan was to hit the cod grounds, then a couple hrs before slack get some bait and watch the ballons. HA! Upon departure the gps couldn't get satellite reception, so I followed a 030 - 060 heading from the gurnet for 1.5hrs at around 20kts, using fuzzy land marks and the depthfinder to find some fish. After the long blind run I see a dropoff from 250 - 300ft then turn around using my fading wake as a guide to get back on it. First drop we got 1 keeper cod and working that spot got 3 redfish (last nights supper, yum!). Around 1pm, my buddy did something and got the gps going again, so we moved on 12 or so miles to our spots and only got short cod and cusk. I had no luck filleting cusk my last attempt so we didn't keep them, but those things inners blow up and they become shark bait. An accelerated circle of life.
I've always done well on my cod spots, so I was bummed to strike out, but we got a late start and time fishing was short.
The slight seas made the long ride back comfortable, but other than a whale show off in the distance by the SWC , there was no life to be seen.

bad gps antenna (these only last about 4-5 years, they crap out with some regularity)

Fishing is weird right now. esp offshore. Something has to change.

I never heard that about the antenna. Mine was 9 years old and always worked.

Good save on the trip without your electronics!
