Still good to go

We had a lot of rain a couple days ago but we still have plenty of ice. A lot of the ponds swelled up in the middle and the edges got a little trashed but we still have 7-8". Back at it tomorrow, hoping for a pic of striped ones on the ice soon.

I don't want to pi$$ on anyone's campfire, but looking at the forecast for the next week or so, the temps will only be cold enough for new ice at night. Even then, it'll be minimal at best.

I will be planning for some time up north for some fishing over the next month.

I'm not saying there isn't safe ice around here now, but in most ponds, if they don't have a run-off or out flow, they were probably flooded and created a water gap between the shore and any sturdy ice. One of my personal favorite local ponds ended up with about a 5 foot stretch of open water out to the sketchy (old) shore ice, so that you'd need a 10 foot plank or waterproof wading boots to get to the safe ice.

Luckily I found that the further away from the 495 belt you go, the better the ice held up.

Hopefully the temps will change in our favor, but only time will tell!

I am a legend in my own mind!
