What Happened?

I joined this site a while ago as a "young guy" wanting to learn all I could from a core group of fisherman. This isn't a fishing site anymore. Non stop political nonsense. If you guys want to talk sh*t about politics go do it on talk-bullsh@t-about-nonsense.com Its early June and there is no real threads about fishing. WTF??? shut down the political threads and maybe some of the guys and girls that used to regularly post would come back. Kick my ass out if you dont like what I'm saying. I won't miss what this place has become.

John Skinner taught everyone all there is to know about fishing.
DJ Mueller taught everyone all there is to know about the canal.
Custom plugs became about getting rich quick rather than about catching fish.
Killing big fish got harder since they all got killed when it was easier.
It is faster to post selfies on Facebook and more people can admire them there.
Too bad you missed the good times.

in a short word - father time... People get old, some pass away, sometimes life just gets in the way, low cycles in fish make some less interested, instant gratification and internet "cowboys" rule the day, the "midnight riders" are fewer and more secretive, fearing muggings at the hands of the instant gratification crew...some have switched to other more "user friendly" interest... and some of us are "business as usual" just scaled back due to the afore mentioned father time, we just aint talking about it.

A good run is better than a bad stand!

it's his ONLY post of the year...I bet if he started an interesting fishing related thread people would be happy to discuss....it's like going fishing with someone and not bringing any gear or lures and the complaining that someone else's gear and lures suck because you aren't catching any fish with them(trying to keep with a fishing topic)....if this was the beer forum...it would be like going to a cookout and not bringing any beer then complaining that you don't like the beer that everyone else brought

this is the media age...we want to click and be entertained by someone else without lifting a finger and then complain when we aren't fulfilled

if there isn't enough content for you try adding some....it's free

Start more posts here and stay out of the political forum - toxic as it is ; )

I am working 60+ hours a week for the mortgage paying gig, if someone want to do content and run it for a big cut, let me know

I did one or two political posts, and quickly found out that was a mistake.
I try to post only about fishing topics, because that’s what the site is supposed to be about. But the other reality is that the fishing isn’t what it was 15 years ago, and Facebook (on which I do NOT post; putting personal information on the internet is bad policy) has taken a lot of the traffic. That’s kind of left an original group of us here from that era sort of stranded on our own internet island without many fish. Times change!

This is very accurate. People went from going to a handful of public squares to being their own Public Square

At 67 I no longer feel the need to post fish pictures, if someone or their kids or grandkids want tips on catching I’m happy to help, but it’s rare to see any request like that on this board. A lot of old salts here that don’t need advice, no real influx of young anglers, the board is aging like all of us original members.

Not too many newbies posting these days looking for advice. If you look at the joining times of who's posting, most folks on here are between 10 and 20 years on the board. I was in my early 40s when I started striper fishing; I'm 61 now. A lot of folks here starting to get old.

Wait, you have a mortgage? Me too. Brandy new at that. Rates were too low to say no, even at my advanced age.

I’ll start.

Slow as crap fishing. Spent 3 days of perfect conditions on the flats and this was the norm. The trout I’m getting would eat this.
Nice scenery though.

Getting back to Mike Ds original post. This site isn’t dying yet, but it is
getting old and losing some of it’s relevance to striper fishing. Sites do die when people believe they are no longer relevant. I remember surfcaster.com dying in 2011. Reel-time (an old favorite) is pretty much done. People stopped posting on Stripers247 last year. Right now Stripersonline seems to have more relevant fishing posts. So this site is still working, but if we want to bring some new internet surfers in, I think it would help if we posted more about striped bass fishing and less about other stuff. That might help bring in new posters and make the site more relevant.

EXACTLY !!!
Mike D is correct as this site is harder to read only cause I am only interested in fishing , Never been to a political forum that I remember and If I did its only cause I hit the wrong banner . I still go to SOL to read fishing things mostly freshwater stuff . I have had some awesome outings catching large trout .
Its just the times with less fish around , I still consider this a good site with awesome fishers to chat with .

thanks John

All this political stuff will be a moot point on 11/4.

That’s when we can go back to fish talk.
