squid and a new twist on tails

been messing with squid plugs, there is a nice run of squid by me in the spring, hoping this guy will catch. heavily weighted in the rear so the tail pulses as it falls and is jigged back up

tail is inspired by seahunt on another board. I asked him first before I put my twist on the tail, he was cool with it. I think it looks good and it should slap on top as the plug swims head down and tail on the surface.

finally one of those peanuts I have been obsessed with, scales were made by flaptails mesh method. Came out ok, but scratched a bit, I'll have to be more careful next time. and a big mouth popper for the schoolies.

freak...your right. Does look like yours. Just spent a bit poking through some of your posts. Those squids are awesome! Must have been tough jointing them like that. Looks like you put alot of time into those.
The tail is made from I have no idea. Friend of mine tied it up for me. I told him what I was trying to do, and this is what he sent. some sort of rubber material.

The tail is made with long saddle hackles and then a collar of short bucktail is tied on. Did one similar on the last squid plug I made. I'm doing a bucktail tying demo at the Plug Fest. I'll demo how to tie one of these tails.

Nice job. Like the wood tail. Turn round first and then sand or mill flat per side? P.

that's exactly how I did it Prof.
left it rounded at the tail, and used the disk sander and some elbow grease to get it how I wanted it.
