Compact Flourescent Lights

A couple years ago tried the CFL Flood lights in the cans in the bathroom. You'd be done peeing before the lights would be warmed up. Had to take them out and go to the regular floods.

Is the warmup time less now 2 years later? Seems the lights that replace the incandescent fixtures don't have as much a problem. But for lights that are only going to be on for a few minutes you don't want to wait.

I know they are "Green" and good for dropping the electric bill.....but they drive me friggin crazy sometimes. I have one in our front door light and I swear I can drive to the store, get what I need and get back before it warms up all the way.

also got burned on the Dimmer switch with them. Bought 4 of the flood type for the family room and after I put them in found out you need "Special" ones for a dimmer to work ......I dished out $70 for them and they didn't work.....

Don't feel bad , the dimmer thing got me too. i have 4 dimmer switches in my house but they operate 15 bulbs. that's a lot of energy savings if i could use the small flouresecent ones but they simply blink if there is a dimmer switch. Mine blink even if I turn the dimmer to full powre. Anyway , its never easy.

I prefer

using candles myself

i buy the real big ones that are white with a 6 inch diameter

as they burn down a hole in the middle i use those fragrant

mini candles in the center and there's no worry about

melting wax...

when i look at my power bill right now i see

customer charge = $6.12
distribution charge= $27.56
transition charge = $3.86
transmission charge = $12.93
dem side management charge =$ 2.70
renewable energy charge $.54 cents

grand total is $ 53.74

and none of that is for used electricity

me that's insane!!!!
