Reverse squid question

Anybody have any secrets on through drilling reverse squids? Every time I try it, I get some splintering where the nose grommet fits in.

Have you tried just through drilling and then drilling the nose loop hole in at an angle on the center line. You could then fill the front of the center hole with epoxy.

Here is 1 I did last year or the year before. I drilled the back end 2" past the belly hole then angled the line tie to it. Next step was to use a countersink to recess the grommet. After plug was wired I epoxied the line tie in place to help prevent movement.

On yours I would move the line tie closer to the nose of the plug. Looks like it could be a potential problem fouling on a cast depending on hook size.

Never thought of countersinking for the grommet. That should give enough beef so it won't splinter when I do the tail wrap. I did move the tie line foward some on ones I made after this one, I did'nt have alot of fowling on the cast or retrieve, but when I hook a fish on just the tail hook it almost always fowled. Have'nt lost any fish but it's a pain to re-tie after every fish. Thanks for the help.
