Good Hunt

Had a good hunt today. We took the day off hoping to see some rut activity, I had seen a very nice 8pter couple days ago chasing a doe in heat. This morning’s hunt I seen nada. About 3ish I had a coyote come in and arrowed it at 20 yrds. I was going to relocate to another stand in the area but decided to stick it out there. About quarter to 4 I see a doe running from a spike buck, he’s grunting as he follows. Then another doe heads towards me, she spots me at 20 yrds , there’s a long stare down and she’s stomping her foot trying to get me to move, seemed like forever. I arrowed her at about 25 yrds, she bolted I heard her crash in the thick. I hit the can (doe bleat) knowing there’s another buck in the area, instead the first doe I seen comes right to my tree, at that time I hear another deer coming from the opposite direction it’s a horn buck (spikes about 8-9” long) he’s watching her, so I decide to wait for a shot at him, he slowly made his way to me, finaly I had the shot at 30 yrds. Such an easy shot, broad side and I F’ed up and hit a tree. It gets better. Instead of the buck taking off he just bolts about 25yrds and stops. The spike buck then come’s out of the brush and their heads collide, they are going at it like I only seen on video they where trying to kill each other. These bucks didn’t even have headgear and they where fighting like alpha males and there was only one doe in the woods. At one point they where fighting in big brush and tossing each other around. It was in freakin credible, I have seen sparing matches between bigger bucks but that was pre season activity. After seeing that I was glad I had missed that buck and was given front row seat to mother nature at its very best. I then went home and got my 6 yr old son to help me dress her he was a little freaked out and exicted at the same time during the gutting but he handled it well. I always felt people who don’t hunt or fish are missing out on so much pure goodness. All these fish and animals where put on this earth for us to enjoy and manage. What a gift.

i generally check daily in hopes of a story like this. not till now did i read of it
but it was worth the wait . good un . a small buck will fight much more agressive than a big one . a big one is more posturing . acserting dominence.
you witnesed something most sports only see on tv, as im sure you will say there is no comparison. .. a non bow hunter just dosnt know what there missing. the pleasure got can only be paid with time spent.
thanks for sharing the report
