??? Root Canal???

I don't think I have ever complained on this site before but I figured ahhh what the H***! I had to go for a root canal today.... wowsers they really tore my mouth a new one I have to go back next week for a wisdom tooth extracted and to get my root canal tooth completly built up! (same day) they told me that I would be fine to work the same day but I was wondering if anyone has had the same thing done should I not go to work???? Does it hurt???? Oh yeah I don't take medication either so the pain will not be masked

Depending how much your wisdom tooth is impacted will determine the amount of pain. Most of the pain will be soreness in your jaw from the trauma to get at the tooth. You'll do just fine.

The wisdom tooth they are taking out is hardly visible I am a little concerned about the whole thing! Most of it is under my gum!!! I have a feeling this one is going to hurt! They are not going to put me under either (can you hear the tooth cracking in half cause I have heard some stories and from what I have heard it does not sound like fun!)From all the Shi& they put in my mouth today I can only imagine what they are gonna do next week......

If clammer sees this I know he would be compationate....lmao like he is w/ the bloooos I'm not worried! I heard he was medicated from his boating experience anyway!

I never had a root canal but I had all mywisdom teeth taken out at the same time. Mine were a mess, growing straight out sideways, straight forward etc. so they put me under. I'm glad they did. Jaws definately sore afterward.

You're not going to take anything for it?

Are you at least going to use novacaine or the gas during the procedure? Afterwards you can get by just fine with Ibuprofen or something like that.

If you are using a specialist you will be pleasently surprised. I do think you will need some meds after to make your jaw and you more comfortable. You will probably be taking a pain med of some sort as well as a strong dose of antibiotics.

I wish you luck!!

The oral surgeon will more than likely give you a shot of novacaine before he even considers pulling those choppers out, but yes you probably will hear the noises you are describing when he pulls the teeth. By todays standards it's as easy and fast as getting a coffee at Dunkin' Donuts.

I had mine done all at once and there was no pain from the removal of teeth but my jaw was a little sore later on but Advil took care of that pretty fast. The worst part was I had to rinse with salt water to close up the holes left in the gums (salt water speeds up the process of filling in the void where the teeth were). Of course I rinsed with something else later .

If you're willing to go without meds afterwards then you will be able to get through this no problem! Ever jamb a hook in your finger , that hurts more than extraction.

Good luck and keep smiling!

Insanity is a long and winding road ... I think I finally made it there.

Arrow if you have plenty

of sick time....i would use it...

everyone's different on pain tolerance
so have some meds (ibuprophen- ......relieves swelling)
ready before hand
just in case....

I've had both procedures done. With respect to the root canal, after the novacaine wore off, there was less residual pain than after an ordinary filling. It was a walk in the park. This was an upper jaw tooth, so your mileage may vary if yours is on the lower jaw.

Now, the wisdom tooth extraction wasn't bad either. I had two done after being put under, but when a third one went bad, my dentist pulled it in the chair using novacaine. Yes, you will hear some ugly sounds, but the only thing you'll feel is pressure. My dentist was an ex-Army guy, and he illustrated the difference between pain and pressure by pricking me on the arm with a dental pick ("that's pain") and punching me gently ("that's pressure")

One advantage to having it done under novacaine instead of getting knocked out is that you can get ice on your jaw right away, and probably have less residual swelling afterwards.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools, because they have to say something.

I have had my wisdom teeth all pulled, never been put out. If you can deal with the root canal (not the building back up part, thats nothing) having them extract the wisdoms will be no problem.. Like others have said, your jaw will be more sore than anything(no comment)
So, I wouldn't worry too much, you will be just fine...

p.s. after you get home, don't take any calls asking you to change a tire, I did and I bleed like a stuck pig trying to force the lug nuts loose

Good Luck!

Used hard and put away dirty....

Had 2 root canals done at the same time, needed the novicaine for the procedure but I was ok afterward. At the worst it felt like a dull tootheache and ibuprophen took care of that.
Still have all my wisdom teeth.

RC is not too bad if edo dentist is good. Ocean state Endo works for me. Wisdom teeth.....have it done on a Friday with lots of novicain or total knock out. You can't get hooked on Ibuprophen 800's and they work....don't even worry about fam history. Clammer would find way to tie tooth to rampaging blufish and let it pull tooth. One more reason for him to hate the Bluz!
