Key Fob Replacement - 2011 GMC Acadia

My wife lost the fob to her '11 acadia over the weekend. She still has the key.

She lost the second set a while back. I don't want to pay the dealer $150+ for a new fob, but it seems that after 2010, GMC does not allow you to program a new fob by yourself.

I haven't called the dealer yet, to see if I can buy a new fob online ($50) and have them program it (have had some bad experiences with this dealer). I would rather see if someone here knows how to program, or can point me in the right direction before I have to call the dealer

I'd be surprised if the dealer would program an aftermarket FOB unless you had an inside connection.

But many locksmiths can reprogram and wouldn't likely care. Likely they'd be cheaper as well.

from what i understand, it is the car that is being re-programmed to the fob. but regardless of semantics, I agree that the dealer won't let me pay $50 for the same OEM fob that they can charge me $120 for....

According to the locksmith I just called, he can't do it because it has remote start, which has to be programmed with special computer....

maybe i will try a couple more locksmiths, because I called the dealer and it is going to be $125 for the fob +tax and $50 for labor to reprogram... $200 for a damn lost fob... UGH!

The worst part is when you find it two days after you get it replaced.

Jesus that's brutal. My old mans benz was $127 for the key and they dont even charge to program it, literally takes them less than 30 seconds to "Program" the key.

Domination takes full concentration..
