Quiet Airguns?

anyone have any experience with quiet airguns? I have a chipmunk problem and don't want my neighbors to hear the solution.

Use live traps.

But an air gun or Short 22 shouldn't make enough noise to raise suspicion.

I use Victor rat traps mostly. I have 6 strategically placed around my yard and they're always on duty. It is not uncommon to clip 4 or 5 munks in one day. There is never just one.

As far as air rifles, my (scoped) cheap plastic 800 fps model has racked up some big numbers over the last dozen years. Nobody has ever paid any attention to the noise it makes.

Take a 5 gallon pail fill it half way with water put it in an area they frequent. Run a 2x4 to the rim on the 2x4 leave sun flower seeds leading to the edge of the bucket. Then place a couple in the water they will float. Chipmunks run up the 2x4 filling cheeks with seeds see the others floating on top and jump

Don,
Not that you can't shoot well, but you have to be a tremendous shot to hit one of the little buggers. The five gallon bucket worked well for me as well. Used a four inch PVC pipe setup as the death ramp. Put seeds on the end, and off they went. Got about 30 moles and mice last fall plus about six munks. Wife fimally caught on and almost puked. I only see one munk around righht now, so I am holding off till fall again when she isn't in the yard.

the smallest to medium hav-a-hart trap is worth it's weight in gold for munks.
you leave the non trip levered door closed and thats where you slide a piece of bread
with peanut butter for smell and glue to "hold" your sunflower seeds
the other door you put the trip lever half way on the tilt table lever "flat" spot
and weight it with a small rock (for speed) outside of the locking
swing latch that falls into the entry door lock tabs.
in this way instead of having both doors open....
the munk has to crawl over the trip plate to get to the bait.

The trick to not having your neighbors know is to use proven techniques. Shoot from deep inside a room with the window open and keep the room dark....

Play this tune just loud enough to drown out the shot.
