The Less Obscure Beer Thread

Had Heady Last week - it was pretty good, not Sip Of Sunshine good, but pretty good.

Easier to finds I have had lately:

Finch's Chimera - was unimpressed the first time but both subsequent times were very worthy

Drinking a Founders Centennial IPA right now. It's OK.

Long Trail's Limbo IPA I found was very, very good and easy to get everywhere I went.

Captain's Daughter is good

Really like Two Roads Lil' Heaven.

If Anyone Comes Across Sip Of Sunshine - PM me where please and I will quit my job for the day and get some.

Mass Rising was OK

Lagunitas Lil Sumptin is pretty good.

So what are you finding??

Pretty Things is stopping production, so I am re-enjoying all their beers and ales I can find for a while now. Starting with Jack D'Or and Baby Tree. Need to find some Fuzzy White Rabbit and Lovely St. Winifred somewhere around. They are all very good.

Yeah I was sad to see that pretty things is no more. They were the first or at least one of the first Brewers to do small really good batches. You can blame Buzzards Bay brewing Co's recent resurgence in popularity with Pretty Thing's demise, as they were making their beer at that brewery. They never owned their own equipment.

My fall back easy to find IPAs the past few years have been Lagunitas Sucks and Lil Sumpin, Long Trail Limbo, and recently Pour Judgement by Grey Sail. If Sip of Sunshine were readily available I probably wouldn't purchase anything else.

I picked up some sip of sunshine last night. It just shipped to a bunch of stores in CT but it never lasts long. I also really like captains daughter when I can find it.

Palate Mallet is also good beer but not as citrusy as SOS or Captains.
Had some Pour Judgment recently and thought that was good as well.

I found some Baxter's Bootleg recently which I would definitely buy again and also found a 4 pack of Against The Grain's Rico Suavin which I though was great but I think it's going to be hard to find.

My fall backs are usually Sea Hag or something from Lagunitas or Ballast Point.

Which one? The only Baxters I've tried is the Summer Swelter and it turned me off from trying any of their other beers.
Lately I've been enjoying the J.A. Kiwi Rising, Maine Beer Co. Zoe and Garrison City Citra.

Had the Stone Enjoy By last night which was good. Not sure how long it's been out that was the first time I had seen it. My wife actually came home with it along with some SOS, Palate Mallet and another beer from Stone called Sorry not Sorry that I haven't tried yet.

I have to try the Kiwi Rising seems to be a favorite of a lot of guys.

Garrison City is about 20 minutes from work...they have some excellent beers. The Citra is excellent and I love their Mosaic. Picked up Mosaic and Khaos for Thanksgiving....

Great small batch brewery

While I wouldn't consider it "less obscure" as it can be very hard to get the Baxter Bootleg Fireworks is pretty damn good...

Had the Baxter IPA, Two Roads Road to Ruin and Allagash White tonight at a holiday party. The Baxter IPA and Two Roads double were both really good. The Allagash was better than expected.

I can't seem to find any Grey Sails Captain's Daughter in the stores. Maybe a ride to Westerly with a growler is in order. I tried their GreatKetch, which is pretty good.
Whaler's, another local brewery in Peacedale, released a Hazelnut Stout, available in some SoCo package stores, just in time for the holidays. While not something all beer drinkers want, it will appeal to many as it's tasty and smooth and full of flavor.

Can only get it in NH. They get it sporadically at the Craft Beer Cellar in Portsmouth. I just go to Dover and grab it at the brewery.

Love there Mosaic.....and @ $9 for a 32oz. Crowler, It's not going to break the bank

#^&#^&#^&#^& - in case you haven't visited yet... closer to you in Kingston is Proclimation Brewery (right across the tracks from the Kingston Amtrak station) - try the Tendril and Derivative. Eben approved!!

I apologize for listing the Garrison City. I walked into a store in Portsmouth when I was up there with the family and saw a growler of the Citra and picked it up. Then I grabbed a couple more on the way back home. I didn't realize it was that hard to find.

Thanks, Dennis. My son and I were there not too long ago and enjoyed their brews. He's the connoisseur, but I always appreciate sampling his stash.
And Eben, I have had the Proclamation Ale at the Mews as well . . . just got whacked $6 or was it $7 for a Whaler's IPA the other night there. Obviously, the time to imbibe at the Mews is late afternoon when all but the rare beers costs $3.

I had a can of the Wachusset Pils the other day and it actually wasn't bad. Tasted like a better version of Coors...but I like Coors.
