Pichney Giant A40 vs. A40 standard

So finally getting around to posting these side by side pics.

I asked a few collectors about these big pichney A40 style plugs, and they all said that they are in fact Danny's work, but very early stuff and kind of rare.

Ive never seen any info on them on bassdozer or other sites, so i was skeptical.

They are different than his standard A40

The big ones are 8" long, have a belly weight 3 1/2" from the nose, weight 2.95oz unrigged, 1.5" diameter, flatter head more of a conrad shape.

His A40 is 7.5" long, cant see any visible belly weight on the 4 I have, weigh 2.3oz unrigged, 1.25" diameter, rounder head.

After looking at these plugs over and over you notice cool things, the way he set his belly grommets is neat, looks like he took an awl and banged each end into the body to hold em in place.

heres a bunch of pics.

In the last two pics you can see the small hole he made by securing the belly grommets in place.

I think Numby may know a thing or 2 about these. I think I traded one to him a couple years ago.

The plug you sent me is something in between, 1.3" diameter and 7.5" long. Same flat head and crude paint job. Makes a great skin plug.

Pichney's "standard" A40 also has a big slug of lead 2 3/4" from the head.
