Spar Urethane / Turps......Dry time

Hey fellas,
I reluctantly made the switch from my sanding sealer (no longer available) to spar / turps (60/40) this spring. I was sealing some blanks and wonder how long the dry time? Its been hot, sunny, and low humidity here as of late and the blanks looked and felt dry after a few hours, but I can still smell the turps a week later.
My question is how long before epoxy or primer? If I can still smell the turps is it still considered "wet" ?How many dips?
I did one long one until the bubbles stopped (about 30 min)
Thanks in advance for your input
MS

I like to give them about a week to dry before priming. I used to prime sooner (3-4 days) but noticed on a few of the lighter color lures I was getting bleed through, they where pine so I'm not sure if it was sap or sealer.
I have some plugs hanging that I sealed a few months back and never got around to finishing, you can still smell the turps on them. They gotta be dry after sitting for 2 months. Depending on the wood I'll soak up to an hour.
Hope this helps.

i do 1 hour dip, Spar/MS and let dry for a full week,if i'm not in a rush i'l give them 10 days also using a dehumidifier,i think it helps a lot.
good luck and keep up the amazing work you always do.

MS as far as the smell, i have some stuff that is 6 months old and you will still get a buzz off them. 7 days is a solid estimated time imo, but uses your best judgement, if it feels dry, if it looks dry then it must be?

Thanks fellas
So even with a slight turps small after a week or so, no issues with paint or e-tex?
Sounds like one main dip?

i was about to use turps too,and lots of feedbacks told me you can't get rid of the strong smell.and not too friendly if you'll be using your basement.thats why i stayed with Mineral spirit.
good luck.

Yeah the turps is strong smelling.......my concern is that the mineral spirits can cause it to gel...I've been down that rod nd it gets expensive plus how to get rid of a gallon of urethane/ms.

I've been using 60/40 pure turps and Minwax clear coat. dries overnight. Once dry, test sand with 220 paper. If it sands and white dust comes off, it's dry. I've primed w/in a day or two w/o issues. Usually I wait a week if I have time. Drying area is heated by furnace in winter.

Take an old tarp, lay it outside and pour the urethane on top of the tarp. Let it get hard and throw away the tarp. That's how the guy at the dump said to do it.....
