Slow day at the dump 8/17

All these reports of long fins enticed me to end a 12 year hiatus and try an inshore tuna trip. Glass calm, always an issue, and very slow. Fished from the mid eastern side of the dump S to the top of the shipping lane, then east. Not much showing other than tiny skipjacks(?). Took some small mahi from under a pallet. No chances at tuna or wahoo. Radio chatter didn't sound overly active either. Beautiful boat ride nevertheless. Did see acres of halfbeaks being ripped apart by large bluefish a few miles S of Nomans. Years ago there would have been bluefin on those. Anybody else do anything?

Bummer. Headed about half that far Mako-wishing with PIemma tomorrow.

Any day in the blueish water is still a good day!

As Mr Sandman said: late day bite! Spent day trolling just south of the shipping lanes. Action started around 3 and got hot/heavy at 5PM. Nothing from 8am until 3pm even though trolling through all the right areas including a 5d temp break and small pods of dolphin. One of those beautiful days to be on the water.

On way out cruising south all of a sudden a HUGE mako decides to go totally vertically airborne maybe 50ft from the boat. Thought it was a breaching pilot whale at first is was so large. Let's say that got the adrenaline following for the morning.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Put 16 longfins on the boat Saturday and 15 on Friday. Placed 10 in the OTC, the Oregon tuna Classic. Yup....fishing out of Garibaldi, OR.

But we had low numbers this week. Two weeks ago we boated between 20-30 fish a day both Fri and Sat at the WTC ,the Washington Tuna Classic in Westport, WA. Including landing Big Fish Friday.....33lb albi

Keep lines wet and tight in the pacific
