Weekend's fishing activity is to canibalize a vinyl chart plotter for parts to build a spinner box dedicated to finishing/drying plugs. I am also going to use the fan for a small spray booth with non-explosive paints.

So let's build a better mousetrap... I am requesting you post your pics of your spinners with comments about hardware, pros/cons, and how you would improve yours. Trying to keep its cost down as well...(aren't we all?) I won't be able to quite match Rockfish9's creation, with its belt driving three or four levels....

Best thing I've seen for a pre made spinner is a pretzel or pizza box.

You the kind they have on the counter at your local pizza by the slice place.

I'm in the works of getting my hands on a few!!!

Brand new there big money but I've seen used ones for as low as 25 bucks.

They heat up to 75 to 150 degrees.

Hopefully can get one before next building season.

A guy on the other site showed me how to make this. Pretty cheap and easy to do. Works mint. Google "Down and Dirty Plug Spinner". He made a video. Guess it's based off of Digger and some other guy's setups?

You can get 25 dollar motors in the BBQ section at Lowes.

The best motor is a dayton gear motor, about 60 bucks and will outlive a chinese rotisserie motor by a few decades.

The best spinner I've seen is Joe's (Rockfish9). He posted it all somewhere. That thing is the nutz.

Here is what I use.
Just a box, plexi doors, two bulbs, rehostat, on off switch, 4rpm dayton motor, wire spool, some angle iron and screen door rollers.

I use piano wire bent on one end that slides into a slot (with an index hole on one end) and held in with rubber bands.

Works well. I can spin 12 plugs that weigh 3-4 oz no problem.
Hasn't burned the house down yet, either.

Mine is constructed out of plywood scraps and stuff I had laying around. Uses a microwave carousel motor which I found on the side of the road

. The whole project didn't cost me a dime, however I just picked up a lamp holder I have yet to wire up to a dimmer so I can control the temp alot easier. A plexiglas window on the front might come in handy as well.

I built this one with some plywood and a few elect items.

Has a sliding plexy front window and a cheap thermostat on the inside wall.

Seeing some of these has me thinking about an end over end spinner.

Does anyone see issues with thecdesign in the attached pic IF the plugs were attached at the axle and the outboard dowels rather than between the outboard dowels?

I see Bruce posted the picture of the twin towers....the bottom one was the first one I ever made, it was made from scraps... I only purchased the light bulbs... The motor was from an old oil skimmer, the gears and pulleys came from an old copy machine...3/8 threaded rod was used for the adjustment and threaded through F&M plates scrounged from work.. I used swivels from my tuna hand lines... the new one, is powered by a rotissery motor, all the belts and pulley bought from McMaster carr.. I did spend a bit of money on that one...George is right about the gear motor, pricey, but you will only buy it once...if and when either motor goes,I'll replace them with a gear motor...BTW... the first one still is going strong... i keep waiting for the copy machine belts to break, but it has not happend yet...

I like the in line spinner for ease of application, but the rotissary style make for a glass smooth finish, and is only slightly more difficult to apply while in motion... I've found that if the rotissary's are spinning towards me, it is eaiser to apply...as I apply my etex while the unit is spinning...

this one hangs under a shelf in my shop to save space

I mounted the light bulb in a small unit under the bottom to keep the spinner box as small as possible.

the door is hinged on the bottom, magnets hold the door closed.

Think this would work if the plugs were strung between the center axle and the outboard dowels?

ya it would work as a flipper similar to mine

with the inline spinners, it makes it easier to apply the epoxy

I think you might get uneven leveling lengthwise along the plug.

I think the viscosity has a lot to do with that issue and how thick you put it on
so if you apply it heavy then heat up your box to the point the stuff can sag, then you may have uneven spots. I have flipped plugs in the past, and I know others have as well. When I first began using epoxy, I used boat builders epoxy by system three and didn't even flip them, just had them on a nail thru a board, worked fine.

Got some great views and ideas from you all. Utilized what I liked with what I had available. Using a rotisserie motor I mount for a rod dryer so it can be used for both purposes. Here's the spinner unit. I will reduce its length to fit in a cabinet as soon as we start demo on a kitchen remodel later this month. Will add a light too. Thanks to all who shared.

I have 2 lure turners with interchangeable wheels, one is set for freshwater baits and will turn 64 freshy crankbaits at a clip the other is my saltwater turner that turns 8 baits at a clip. I also have 2 other freshwater and saltwater wheels that will fit either one of the turner frames for when I need to amp up the lure clearcoating process

8 to 10 plugs at a time is enough for me. Got 4 motors, spin at 6 rpm's. I got a cheap rod spinning set up and took off the motors and threw away the rest. Been using it now for several years.

I think you need the centerline of the plugs to be parallel with the axis the dryer spins on.

BTW , in my rod curing boxes I use a string of Christmas lights rather than a single bulb. Do to the long length of the rods , I must either distribute the heat source(s) or use a fan and fans are bad around wet epoxy. If your plug curing box is short it might not matter but if you make a longer one , the smaller lights in a string work nicely. I aim for about 90 degrees F inside. Not too hot but enough to insure overnight curing.
