Body Mass Index

Check your hieght to weight ratio, this should tell you where you should be.
http://www.disabled-world.com/artman...t_weight.shtml

go and take your weight,

Multiply your weight in pounds by 703.
Divide that answer by your height in inches.
Divide that answer by your height in inches again.

Below 18.5/ underweight
18.5-24.9/ Healthy
25.0-29.9/ overweight
30-39.9/ Obese
Over 40.0/ Morbidly Obese

By these charts I need to lose 25 pounds, and I am border line over weight

Friendlys chocolate chip!....that chases me right off the chart. The last doc. I saw has a huge chart on his wall and every visit he would point to it and be sure to tell me I was obese. Last visit to him I told him to shove his chart and that I was born heavier than the chart allows.
Some people are destined to be heavy and others are to be skinny.

Well for me it has to be a lifestyle change, my Blood pressure is 190 over 85, and my Cholesterol if off the charts, I take 5 different scrips
so basically I am a walking heart attack, my goal is to get down to 160. I am always hungry

It's tough to eat healthy when you spend the night fishing. I never used to eat while fishing at night, then I would go home and eat everything in sight. After polishing off some ice cream, I went to bed. They tell you to eat more during the day and not to eat before going to bed because your matabolism is slowed way down while sleeping. Now, I try to bring something to snack on while fishing and drink a lot of water to fill up. I have lost quite a bit of weight by not eating late at night anymore. Now I don't tire as much when walking to the secluded spots while wearing my waders and carrying my gear.

I don't put much stock in those BMI charts.
Why? Because after my physical last week, I weighed in at 261 at approx. 6'1". Now based on that chart, I'm obese. That's crap.
I walk approx. 1 mile a day, 3 days a week while pumping 2 5lb. weights. I try to eat VERY sensibly. I don't look like I weigh as much as I do, becuase muscle weighs more than fat.
I have always been a "stocky" kind of guy.
For example: when I was 14-15 years old I was 5'11", 175 lbs.
I wore mens shoes size 11 and had a 34 inch waist.
I walked and ran EVERYWHERE just for fun.
I am what is comically referred to as being "big-boned".
When I see/hear expert charts or info regarding what our "perfect" weight should be, I cringe. How the hell does the idiot that made that chart know what I look like?
Sure, if we were all cloned from the same perfect mold, then we should all adhere to the chart specifications, but fortunately for me (and the rest of us) we weren't spit out of some laboratory experiment gone wrong, and we're all different.
For the record, for me to get to my ideal weight, I would literally have to cut off part of my body or starve myself to near death.

I don't put a lot of stock into the BMI scale. When I got out of basic training/AIT I weighed in at 191 after 3 1/2months in Alabama. The docs couldn't "pinch an inch" on my body. (now at 235#s that is a different story) At 6' the chart calls for me to weigh 160 to 170#s. LOL Never gonna happen

I am still of the belief that life insurance companies used to use. If your waist is bigger than your chest then you have a problem.

That chart is complete bunk...At 6"2 I should weight 175?

I haven't weighed that since 8th grade. If I went below 200 today I'd look emaciated.

im with spence on this, you have to take in the body fat to muscle mass ratio in order for your hight to weight ratio to mean anything. There are plenty of tottaly ripped, yet healthy, people that this calcuation would lable as overweight or even obease.

Yeah can't totally go by those charts. However, there's a big difference being say 6-0 200lbs and muscle built, eat healthy, and work out. Or being 6-0 200lbs and nothing but lard! Eat donuts everyday, and don't give a crap about your health! Look in the mirror, i'm sure we can all tell what category we fall into.

No weight is weight, it is either fat or muscle either way it is unhealthy to have to much weight to lug around

Perhaps only if you don't have the heart capacity to keep the blood flowing...chances are if you have a lot of lean muscle your heart is in decent shape.

Most really old people you see tend to be smallish in nature, but that's just the luck of the draw...

I wasn't saying that, I was saying there is healthy toned and unhealthy bulk, Like a Muscle head that can't bend there arm and touch there shoulder.

I am far from fat and far from ripped toned I am in the middle, last year at this time I weighed 170 now I am at 190, all from quitting butts.

well Tattoobob ,

i have an excellent tip for you that i recently re-discovered that i have been using and it works totally awesome....and it's as simple as you can get..... all you do right...is when you feel the hunger pangs coming on......you take a small handful of raw (shelled) sunflower seeds and eat them...and i'm telling you that within a couple of minutes the hunger just fades away...completely.

and you have to marvel at the common chickadee that is out there in the freezing cold in winter time....when it's so damned nasty frigid that a human being won't wanna be out there for even 15 minutes without getting frost bitten and this little tiny bird is sustaining itself
completely by eating nothing but sunflower seeds.Nature knows!

I'm 6' even and 190 = 25.7

I would like to lose about 10 pounds so I guess that seems in line with the charts.

Interesting that women are allowed higher weights for the same height as men.

According to the charts my wife is right on target but I remember when she was about 20 pounds lighter and not quite as big a target!

Damn, I'd have to be 7 feet tall in order to be healthy! Funny, I don't feel like I'm too overweight. I can see my feet when standing straight and can still touch my toes without bending my knees, I like Mac's chart better so I'll go by his standards.

Insanity is a long and winding road ... I think I finally made it there.
