Question Darter help

I am attempting t omake my first darters and I have a few questions. What is the best way to cut the slope and head? Is freehand or ban I make a jig or tempate? Also which is the better wood birch or maple? I am going to make both just wondering which one is a better choice?

some people use bandsaw, others a sander, or a hand saw. i think making darters that work right is pretty hard, i dont like making them. good luck. im not a darter genious, but those 2 woods sound very good for darters. post some pics of your stuff.

live to fish. fish to live. rod tips high.
