yep - first saw Tool as a sidestage band at Lallapalooza in 92 or 93??? I've seen them probably a dozen times. Favorite show was 2000 in NYC at the Roseland ballroom. I was ten feet from Adam the whole night - couldnt hear for two days

I'll second Richie Hayward of Little Feat. Maybe not the speed merchant like some others mentioned above, but he keeps their funky beat to perfection.

if yer talkin Jazz and mentioning Buddy Rich, you cant leave off Max Roach. Buddy was great, but dated. The bop drummers took it to a new level.

For rock, I like the guys with style, ones you can hear and intsantly know who they are. For me, JOhn Bonham and Stuart Copeland (police).

Stewart Copland gets my vote too Jimmy.....original for sure...love his style....heard a rumor today the the Police are going to tour..
I saw him a couple years ago with Oysterhead as well as with the Police many moons ago...still amazing...

Matt Abst--2005,2006 REALLY GOOD--Government Mule's drummer
I also remember Ed Shaughnessy from the Tonight Show band,excellent.

Thanks Karl, some great memories there. If i'm not mistaken, that was Dizzy Gillespie on the horn in part 1.Part 2 had alot of Cole.

Saw a drum battle between Cole and Krupa at the Metropole in NY with both of them behind the bar so close ya could touch them.

Good times there with all the greats, Satchmo Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton to name a few. Different times, but great music.
