Prisoners

More crap from Iraq, is this really a bg deal? There not beating them or torturning them. Now all these foreign newspapers are saying that it will upset Arab people and there will be more attacks. Everyone is just looking for us to do anything thats not perfect.
I say screw the world, lets close our borders
Here are the captions on a few pics:
One of the images aired on "60 Minutes II" appears to show a hooded prisoner standing on a box with wires attached to his hands.

In another of the images aired on "60 Minutes II," a female soldier appears to be making a gesture at a hooded, naked prisoner

Im not for being cruel, but this is no big deal in my mind. More garbage.

It's a pretty big deal. We try to say we are above such things and then these idiots go and torture some prisoners. Yes they wern't beaten, but telling somebody they will be electrocuted if they move is torture all the same.

If I was Bush I'd have them flown to the WhiteHouse and dress them down personally. The troops directly responsible for this should be courtmarshalled.

You have a pretty encompassing view of what "tourture" is.

Making someone believe they are about to die is torture. Doing it as a prank is unhuman.

Ever read Catch 22? War is a strange thing.
SPence, I understand your point. But, If you think about it, one minute, you are trying to kill someone, then its "inhumane" if you make them think your going to kill them.
Whats humane about trying to kill them in the first place?

How sick is war? Why do we have the Geneva convention? It's to bring some method to the maddness.

The simple fact is that these Iraqi's were powerless. I don't care if they were trying to kill our guys the week before. The moment they become prisoners everything changes.

Would this be acceptable if it were done to a convict in the USA? If we are to hold a moral authority in the world, and use this to justify our actions...then we must hold ourselves accountable to the same authority.

Would this be acceptable if it were done to a convict in the USA? It should be acceptable!!! Once you have been convicted of a crime, I believe your "rights" should go right out the window!!! We spend too much time, effort and worst of all MONEY, making sure the pieces of CRAP that populate our prisons are treated "fairly". I say BULL$HIT!!! If you choose to act like an animal, then you should be treated that way.

RIght after George W was sworn into office and before Sept 11th he and his crew quietly announced that the US was withdrawing from the International War crimes Tribubnal.. I know that this is seperate from the Geneva Convention, but it shows that they were planning to attack Iraq (or some other country) even before 9/11...

"Eye for an eye"

In most of the arab world, they chop off your hand/fingers if you get caught stealing. I our country, we give them free room and board paid by us taxpayers.

I agree with C-5 CC...F 'em!

You wanna talk about morality? What about our people who were killed, then dragged across the streets and hung for the world to see? Where was the world's outrage then?

I'm so F'ing pissed off at this whole chit it's not even funny. I don't have all the answers, but this is getting ridiculous.

Same here, but we proclaim ourselves as beeing the bastion of democracy and human rights, we have to live by that too. Even when we despise the little effs just the same. Just because in the mideast the chop your hand off for stealing doesn't mean we should go back to the stone age as well.

There is also a big difference between doing what is right and humane and being super liberal in out own prison system. The crap like paying for sex changes for the so-called "gender transparent" is absolute bullcrap, the states and federal governments should not be paying zillions to "reducate" someone in the prison system or all the other froofy crap they do. It is reasonable to make sure the wardens hand picked guards don't throw a blanket party and beat the crap outr of someone as part of a "lesson". Someone effs up? Throw them in lockdown for a month.

Same thing over there. Just because we're dealing with some pigs, we must treat them humanely and by the code of law. That's what makes us different from those jackbutts over there.

Hey there big cheese,

John, I worked 2 blocks away from the towers. I was one of those "should have been there, but wasn't" guys that fateful morning.

It just hits close to home for me - this whole war on terrorism.

My life got flipped upside down and backwards. I closed my company, had to let go of 25 good people and I'm still struggling to come back from the devastation (economically, emotionally, etc...). When I see the press saying chit like what we're talking about, it just boils my soul.

I know we're supposed to be "better" than the animals, but sometimes, I just feel like maybe we shouldn't hold ourselves up so high. Afterall, we're the only nation that has nuked another counrty (twice!). I just feel like maybe it's time for ... POOF!

I know it's not rational, it's not right, it's not humane...

But how many more lives do we have to lose? I'm just talking outta my arse now....sorry for the rant.

Cool

Not like we're attaching electrodes to their balls and turning on the current. We let other countries do that for us. Nobody made a huge stink when Al Jazeera showed the Fedayeen gloating over the bodies of American soldiers who looked like they had been executed. Al Jazeera didn't make a big stink when Jessica Lynch was being brutally interrogated (btw did anyone ever figure out if she was raped?)

Iraqi prisoners get red carpet treatment compared to the inhumanity of what some of our guys got.

You know what? I'm with addict.

Arab world has a problem with the way we handled a few of their prisoners?

Fukkem all, especially Al-Jazeera.

ya!!!

Its high time to start a vigilante forum. You would post about a person or persons being wronged, we would all post our solutions to the problem, the post originator would pick the idea he/she liked best, the two of them would go out and deliver justice the S-B way and report back. I know it would sure make the winters go by faster!!!

Common sense sure didn't prevail in that prison. You just have to wonder at what point did stacking naked men in a pyramid and taking their picture sound like a good idea?
These were prisoners of war, not convicted felons. Once they put their hands up they rate the same treatment we would want.

Whether or not we like it, we should be following the Geneva Convention. It is too easy for us to act like big bullies, considering the sheer size of our country, and our ability to annihilate the whole world over if we wanted to w/ WMDs and Nukes, and Missiles.

Terrorists are abusing our warriors, but remember, they did not sign that geneva convention, and they are not a soveriegn country o so sort, they're just the bottom of the toilet bowl trying to float up to the top.

Addict, WeeWee, what I'm saying is not torture the crap out of them with illegal techniques. We're the good guys, the terrorists and these insurgents are the bad guys (and many of them are just under the spell from their leaders). BLow them off the face of the earth, fine by me, but if we have them in custody, we need to do what we as Americans citizens hold above just about everything else, the respect for and rule of law. I have no problem of the US interrogating these guys, just do so with in the law. We live in the greatest country on the world. Our country is based on many things, but at its base is human rights, freedom, and law. That's all I'm saying. When we go outside of those boundaries, we lower ourselves.

i agree with spence, this is a big deal. we'd like to think that we're more civlized than those "animals" in the middle east, yet we allow this kinda crap to go on. thats great, now we're lowering our standards and morals to meet their's. another reason to hate the US=more reasons to become a suicide bomber.

Learned many years ago.

Don't do something you don't want to see on the front page of the newspaper, more importantly don't take pictures

It is important to take the "Moral High Ground" when dealing with prisoners, things can get out of hand pretty fast if you aren't careful...

spence put it best..another reason to hate the US=more reasons to become a suicide bomber

Those persons being made to "Pig Pile" in the nude are not like us Christains or Americans.
They are Arab/ Islamics and in their world it is a major major sin/ embarrassment/ shame/ whatever to be nuded in front of men and women. To have a womans pantys placed over an American Males face may be a twisted turn on to us but to those persons it is a major sin.
We take a prisoner we need to care for that person as a prisoner. We want to capture play things for the weird few involved in these acts we need to "start asking" and start clearing the decks of the sick bitches that would do something like the photos depict. And why take photos?? That is the really sick part of these acts, to me. It is bad enough they did these acts but to record them on film is really sick!
That little snot bag wandering around pointing at those prisoners "private parts" has got to one really sick bitch!
Sorry about the language but it just really makes me sick!

I wouldn't doubt the recent additional gas price hike is directly related to the Iraqi prisoner videos.

Nothing our guys did even comes close to what those animals in Iraq did, and continue to do, and have always done.

We didn't cut off someones head with a knife while they were still conscious. You know, I read somewhere a long time ago that the supposed "garden of Eden " was in Iraq, if you beleive that sort of thing. That would make them the oldest civiliztion on the planet. And yet they're still stuck in the Middle Ages. I've never heard of a more warped and twisted mentality than that of the people in the middle east.

Never gonna get any better with those savages over there.
F*** em all. Bring the boys back home and close the borders. And on your way out...........do me a favor, drop a few well placed nukes

I have a feeling that since they've beheaded an American civilian in protest of prisoner treatment there will be fewer prisoners taken. If you get my drift. Ugly hasn't started yet. What a freakin' mess.

I've had more than enough of the photos, but those guilty or some of those guilty will be brought to justice, and hopefully this will be a hard lesson for our military, but it will be rectified.
What really gets me are the pictures on the news 24/7, I can't even watch NECN without worrying about my kids seeing this crap (at 3 and 5 it's just too soon for them), but the country went nuts when janet showed a nipple for less than a second? I don't get it.
We've got problems, but I wouldn't want live anywhere else, and I support our troops and our president 100%.

Embarass and humiliate terrorists? Tough titties. Lets call it mild retribution for dragging dismembered American civilans through the streets of Iraq. Sorry but a little soft porn from a terrorist prison camp isn't gonna break my heart or change my opinion on what they truly deserve.
