Happens here too Matt on occasion! Found one yesterday! Must have gotten in when I put the door screens in but sometimes I find them 6-8 at a time!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Get a pro The only way to solve the problem is to eliminate the nest, and that could be anywhere. If your seeing them in the house at this time of year, chances are there nesting in the house. Check attic perimeters and along basement sills. it can be as easy as the ants living above the vapor barrier of the insulation. Take a walk around the exterior this weekend when it's warm and try to follow them into the house and you'll have any idea of what side to concentrate on. BTW baits don't generally work, but you could try Terro. It has worked for us.

Matt, if they're carpenter ants they will be around damp wood. If you see any sawdust it's prolly them.

They work at night, and drop the sawdust a good distance from the nest. Go out at night with a flashlight and you'll see them dropping the sawdust in a single file line.

Follow them back with the light to see where they have their nest.
Then like Biteman said.

Matt..I have had the same problem for a couple of years..Went to the hardware store on rt27 in Hanson..They recommened the bait traps that have arsenic in them,,,No problem at all...put them out every spring..Of course if you have young kids or pets it might pose a danger to them..but it kills the fresking ants

I'm going where I'm going...

Pic worked for me. Let them take as much as they want back to the nest. For every one you see, there's probably a hundred you don't.

Don't screw with them - hire a guy to rid your house of them. I hired a guy and it turned out to be the best c note I spent. After he got through there wasn't a crawler to be found for a year. I now have him treat the house every year.

they love french vanilla creamer.

with ants.... you have to be real clever...

because they are smart bugs... and the professionals ...even with all of
their sprays sometimes miss the main nest... like here for example ....the spray guy comes and afterwards......... i had more ants...

somewhere on your place....there is wet wood... it's generally on the north side of the house where the sun doesnt dry it sufficiently.

i found a spot where the carpenters had doubled up a some floor joists
underneath the deck... and to look at it... not much signs of ants...
inside or between those two [always damp] floor joists there was a huge colony with a thousand baby ants being created.

I bought some of that Amdro Ant Block, spread it around the foundation like the directions said (read twice for safety reasons). The stuff works great - no ants

ants

I had to have Terminex come a few months ago. Had a terrible time. I signed up for three summertime visits as a follow-up. After the initial visit from the tech or whatever you call the kid no more ants. I popped some trim from the wall in the general area that I figured they came in from and he sprayed some green stuff in between the studs and the ants started dropping like rats. Replaced the bulkhead to further take care of my end.

Don't ever call Terminex! Try to get a referral and find a local company.
