Enlisting in USMC

Yo guys, i havent posted, or gone fishing in awhile becuase ive been having a busy summer with football but ill be enlisting in the corps next month and will be in the DEP (delayed entry program) POOLEEEEE! and i will be going to bootcamp sometime next summer. im sure there are guys on the site that are enlisted right now or are retired marines. i was wondering what your experiences were like during bootcamp, MCT or infintry training, mos training, and the corps in general. also if you have any cool pics while in the corps post em, expecially if you went over seas. As far as an MOS goes im looking for something like engineer/construction, ground ordinance, or maybe even infintry.

I dont know too much about the marines , but I recently got out of the Army. Boot camp was the easiest part of my service.

I looked into all the services before I settled on the army. The army was the only service that would let me choose my job. My best advice is to look into all options before signing up.
I never regret signing up, but missed some oppurtunities by not looking into things as much as I could have. Some of the best and worst memories of my life.

If you want to be a Military Engineer join the Army, if you want to do construction join the Seabees or the Airforce, AF is mostly about runway repair, when the Marines really need something built the Seabees do it.

If you want to walk to work every day join the Corps, my first First Sergeant used to say "Driving to work beats walking to work any day"..

Either way, I wish you luck and thank you for your service

Ditto!!!

What MOS has your recruiter convinced you of? Do you know that there is a second test to see if you can get the MOS that what you want? Get ready to strip off all your clothes till your butt naked, then go in reverse,,,do that as fast as you can for as long as that drill instructor gets tired...and that MF'er is a$$ 0. The regular metal trash can lids on parish island shine like mirrors(no exaggeration)and they're all beat up....and they make the platoon brush the floors with little hand brushes,,,, over and over and over and over and over ...forever.....and the sand fleas on that island?? Nightmare! Those fleas bite like nat's (no seem'ums) but worst. The drill instructor takes you outside and watches you suffer getting bit every where and you can't move... 3 months of that. I'll be honest..... I F'ing hated it, even now25 yrs later it wasnt worth it. I could honestly have someone write a good book of my experience alone in boot camp and i bet it would sell. put it this way, those drill instructors had a field day with me in a public airport as I walked off the plane from Boston. I was treated like chit chit chit for 3 hours in room under the airport as soon as I got off the plane. they try and break your a$$ every chance they get. We started with 60 recruits and ended up with 40 just like they had said.

* DO NOT volunteer for anything!

Best of luck, I hope it turns out as you want it to. You'll probably get a deferred entry.

Congratulations and thank you for enlisting to defend our country!!

before signing on the dotted line, see what you can do to get bumped up a paygrade or at least go for a Marine rating with transferable skills for when you get out.

Recruiters are required to fill slots, and trust me when I tell you that is their #1 priority, not your well being.

I did 4yrs in the Navy, I told my recuriter that I liked boats and navigation and wanted to be around that, he told me to be a boatswains mate. Fast forward to boot camp, the company commander asked "who here is going to be a boatswains mate", I raised my hand and he handed me a broom. I did work my ass off in bootcamp and volunteered to be the educational petty officer for my company, for that I was giventhe choice to be promoted to E-2 or choose the rating of my liking, I chose to be a quatermaster, which was ensuring the safe navagation of the ship, and just what I wanted to begin with (however, it's not a very transferable skill if you don't want to stay at sea).

E-1 / E-2 pay stinks (or did 20yrs ago) and it felt like forever to go from E-1 to E-3. I made it to E-5 before my time was up.

Joining the Navy was without a doubt the best decision I ever made. I wish you the best of luck and again, Thank you for freely enlisting to serve and protect our Great Country!

Goose gave you good advice. The only thing I can add is stay out of ground ordinance. They'll have you busting your azz 24/7.
Whatever you choose or get assigned to, best of luck and thank you.

Don't forget to give him a call if you need a ride....that's what we do

In all honesty, Congratulations and Thank You. You'll make some lifelong friends from your time in the service. I still get together w/ guys I served w/ over 25 years ago.

We proposed to completely replace the manual process with an electronic workflow, use biometrics and facial recognition to eliminate fraud, build electronic interchanges with all of the armed forces, do electronic interchanges for background check and have a reporting solution for the Chain of Command that allows them to have access to drill into the process to see the effectiveness of their recruiting efforts.

Nope, sorry we changed our minds, we'll do it the same way we did it in the 60's.

Several things happen at various MEPS.

A) Someone else takes the ASVAB than the applicant, applicant re-enters for the physical and itnerview

B) Same thing for the Physical

C) Someone else shows up for the Bus

D)watch list and outstanding warrant individuals clear and are inducted

I imagined things like this could happen but on such a small basis. The sad part is it would take a few dishonest people for this to even happen. I am shocked at (d) though. I cant remember but I am almost certain you go through a fbi check.
