Gotta be careful with "best" lists. Sometimes the Publisher is being paid.

Good list. Top 10 is solid, though I'd drop the ruthless rye. Similar to the list by American home brew association. Some reinforcement to the idea that rare and hard to get are not necessarily better.

I agree Eben. But when I saw that most of my favorites made the list I figuered it was somewhat accurate. What's nice about this list is it gives me some other beers to keep an eye out for.

True. This list is a national list I think. Beers that are widely distributed. Pliney the elder is amazingly good.

Yeah I take "lists" with a grain of salt.

This particular list had many I have tried and many I never heard of. Of the ones I tried some were of no surprise to make the list and oters I thought "really"? Like Clogston said the Ruthless Rye I could do without alltogether....but in the end it's all a matter of taste and thats all that matters to each individual. I absolutelty love some beers while my friends will hate them and visa vesra. Thats the beauty of having options. To me beer "lists" are new suggestions to try, maybe even a challenge. For example I absolutelty LOVE Sierra Celebration come winter, but in summer I want something else. Does it desreve number one or top ten? No, even though I love it. This is the beauty of the craft beer revolution (if you will). So many options and I love to try as many as I can but there are always the ones I cant help going back too. Sometimes they are not the most "prestigious" either. For example whenever I have Long Trail ales I say "why dont I buy these more often"? Overall I think they are a good staple and good beer but they never make "the lists"

Simplify.......

Having both the pliney and heady topper side by side recently, to me heady is much better but lower rated by far.

My problem with beer advocate's rating system is that the harder to find beers get fewer ratings than the easy to find beers. As a result the average ratings become non comparable. One bad review of heady topper equals 50 bad reviews of Pliney.

I was going to ask how hard it was to find Pliney around here - I guess not even possible? I've never even seen the Heady Topper in any packies I frequent - my only one was a gift from one of our members here.

DZ, there was a site mentioned in a previous thread in this forum for a place in CA that would ship. I'm on my iPhone right now and can only go back 2 pages and can't go back further.

Couple places in CA that will let you order via internet, but shipping is $$$$ and you are limited in how many Pigs or Pliny's you can buy and you have to buy a minimum number of bottles. Worthwhile once and then if you just have to have a Pig or a Pliny or both.

ya know, if the ink is dry the list is old. that and I would think the top 100 to 200 or so would be all in the same ballpark as these top 50 with lots of ties. You could probably do top 50 for each style these days. Celebration #1..really....really...they just lost all respect. Pliny the Elder over the Younger, never in a million years. Glad to see Floyd's Dust on the list. Need to find a Indy/ChiTown supplier that can send me some. Current new fav was posted by Dennis, Undercover Investigation!

p.s. any list without Hill Farmstead or Lawson's (or a bunch of others to be named elsewhere and at another time) is pure DROT!!!! (maybe the ones not on the list are just too crafty.....that's what I like)

Probably have two four packs left for trading.

Looks like Quality Liquors will no longer export, have to buy in store only.
