The workaround is to fish open water. I had a couple runs last weekend, but no takers, still good to get out.

Yup, head north. I've fished every weekend since the end of December. The fishing has been outstanding too. But one must still be very carefull, the ice is very inconsistant, ranging from 11 inches of decent ice to 4 inches of soft bubble ice in a mere 50 yards, and large cracks are forming (and not refreezing) on a daily basis. This year more than ever, safety gear is imperitive. I will not step on any body of water this year without a spud, rope, floatation device, and a fishing partner.

If you stay away from any and all suspicious areas, check as you go with your spud, and take nothing for granted, your reward will be unpressured fish and a lack of crowds. ...a perfect combo in my opinion.
