Go to take a shower this am and handle was stuck. I had not the luxury of coffee and clear thinking and stripped the handle a bit.

Now I'm guessing that this is a common problem? Seals? Diverter?

Recommended next step?

Thanks!

John

It is a fairly common problem. The fix is to replace the stem
another fix is to remove the stem blast w/wd 40 or boil it in vinagar
then shake it back and forth till you hear the balance valve move.
Either way shut off water supply, turn handle to the middle ,remove handle, loosen and remove nut and pull out stem
hope this helps

Just thinking if it's the diverter remove control handle, remove face plate, remove large hex nut, screw lag bolt into plastic cartridge, pull straight out and replace the divertor

Hopefully the unit has shutoff behind the faceplate (escutcheon). Makes life easier. Will NOT be the case if was bought from Home Depot.....(which is why they sell for less than plumbing supply houses) If the brass keys are rounded over you need a stem/cartridge unit, as stated above. How old?
