Any safe ice yet?

Is there anything even slightly resembling safe ice anywhere within tge 495 belt?

I'm heading north this weekend hoping to find some suitable conditions, but I definitely want to hit the local waterways as well!

I drive by quite a few ponds every day on my way to and from work. The just started to lock up last week and with the rain we had yesterday I am not very confident they are safe. But they still do have ice. Having said that, I did see some holes cut in a pond my house on the north shore last weekend. I do plan to check out a few of the more popular spots Sunday and Monday to see how much ice this weekends arctic blast has produced. With the lack of snow cover it should be substantial.

This weekend I would head north, but next weekend we might have a chance at some of the smaller ponds closer to home. Be carefull and catch a monster.

If you have monday off, I would hold out till then. It's going to be prime ice making weather the next few days. You should definitely find some ponds that are safe by Monday.

My lake was about 90% covered yesterday when i came home around 4 PM. This morning its 90% open again. Even though it was cold last night the wind blew it up.

Everything is better on the rocks.

Yesterday there was about 1.5 inches of nice black ice. It should be safe today.

Everything is better on the rocks.

alot of the ponds around here are locked up.. as long as they survive the rain tomorrow.. we'll be in good shape next week... although I'm still going to drive a few hours north..

A good run is better than a bad stand!

Saw some kids skating on one of the local ponds around here....checked it and it looked like a solid 2-3 inches of good black ice....need a couple more nights like we just had and it will be Go-Time
