Busy BigFish Plug Porn!

I been busy working on a few ideas I have been batting around for awhile and these are some pics of the finished product! The biggest idea I had was I wanted to add gill covers to some of my plugs mostly for aesthetic reasons. I like the results! It also gives the head more definition and gives me a convenient break point for some of my paint schemes! Love to hear your thoughts!

Also been working on a few new jointed versions of the "Prey" swimmer and my 3 oz. Danny! Have not had these in the water yet as they are prototypes but they will swim soon! I think the design will provide a tight wiggle with th water flowing into the joint! I like the result though! Fun to try to carry the paint over from front to back...gives a great result!

That's some really awesome work there, Larry. Love the macs.

I have never been able to get the results I have been looking for in a mackeral pattern....I tried some free hand before but was unhappy with the results and could not find a pattern template I was happy with so I tried a new way to freehand and I was quite pleased with this result! These are blue macks Raven.....no green in them. Maybe your eyes see something I don't? I have seen green tinkers before....but no green in the adult Jacks??

I'd stick with the gills...gives your already great looking plugs "WOW"...a lot of the stuff out there starts to look the same after a while...that little addition really gives you a different and appealing look...those jointeds are CRAZY

Larry those are fantastic. I too tried freehand mackeral lines. Seemed to be OK . I think if I had a good airbrush for detail they would of came out better. what gun have you been using? I've been toying with a recessed joint for a tihgter fit and also making a 2 -piece jointed to take apart to fit in plug bag then join when fishing. Thinking of a Breakaway clip. Trying to find an easier way to carry 10" jointeds. On the positive side of a joint farther apart is that the plug would fold over an fit in the tube on one half and lay across the top of the tubes. You know it's winter . Too much time to think.

Larry those look great!

I was messing with jointed stuff this weekend trying to tighten the joints. I ended up countersinking the whole nose grommet on the back piece a little bit, so the whole nose grommet is countersunk maybe a little over 1/8-3/16. Once you do the tail wrap on the back piece all that sticks out of the nose loop is the very end of the loop. Where yours is cut in such a sharp 'V' you'd need to make the tail loop on the head piece sit horizontal then the countersunk nose loop on the back piece could be vertical ...

Those are incredible Larry, the joints look about as tight as you can get them. How the heck do you get the wrap in there so tight?

Larry you should check out Jig Man's idea for tight joints, its on "the other site", might work out exactly how you want. Nice work though!

The gill plates are as simple as it gets......I made a jig for my bandsaw, positioned the angle I wanted them to be, choose where on the plug you want them exactly and just a quick cut on each side! Set your jig up so it positions itself identically on both sides! Then just a little sanding and Bob's your Uncle! I like a little realism on my plugs.....been batting this simple idea around for awhile now!
