Winter builds

It's a bit early, there's still plenty of fishing to be done but wrapping season will be here before you know it. I have less on the table this year. Another 3-6 vapor trail (deep blue) is the only surf stick that I have plans for. I picked up 2, one for a back up. The exchange rate is extremely favorable right now (vs last year, ~$150 less for 2 of them). Other than that I have 2 conventional rods that are half built. I'd like to finish one of them at least. Same goes for a affinity X 10wt flyrod.

Looking to build another 9' (ish) spinner, something to toss maybe 1 - 4 oz. Havent purchased a blank yet, still looking around.

I've had a Lami TriFlex blank sitting around for a while that needs to be built. Should be a nice BSB and Tautog rod. Maybe a light spinning rod for my wife and it sounds like I'll be getting orders for a light trolling rod from a few of the charter guys.

Just stripped a xra1083 built as a conventional and rebuilt it as a light spinner using Titanium KL20H-KL10H-KL8m to KT 8 runners. This is a great layout for 9-10ft rods and 4000-5000 sized reels. The rod itself looks awful (since there is no foregrip to cover the old scars and I had no interest in repainting the blank) but casts the nuts. Plan to try it for shore albie stuff.

The blanks were ordered 10/9, I should get them friday (or monday at the latest). Last year it took almost twice that to get them.

I will get guides around thanksgiving (good sales then) and start building it after the holidays.

I got them thru HL. He’s checking to see what happened and what can be done. I don’t really want a 50/50 blank.

Only good reason is when the tip breaks. Seriously the 4-8 2 piece I did feel , cast & fish nice . Tip broke and trimmed to #9 . Still fishes great. Actually feels better with high end weights.

I have considered that but aspect but it don’t need 2 of them. Still waiting to here. I’m hoping it won’t be an issue. I’m not getting started on the builds until January. So no rush.

Herb took care of it, getting 2 at the correct length. The others were sold at a reduced price.

Ps - Actually decided to get a 2-4 and a 3-6.

Guides and other stuff will be ordered over the next few days, hopefully the blanks get here in about 2 weeks. I’d like to start them right after the new year.

Not that I saw. Were they even ever available?

Guides were funded by some plug sales, so a little less painful.

That will be super top light and responsive.
I have them on my 10' beach rod. I kinda wish they had the KB in 8 & 10. The wider foot may help but i never had an issue with any single but I never built one for hard core fishing with singles.

I have a few rods with the singles, I have been using them for a few years without any issues. The biggest risk with singles is during travel and around the house - banging them around is the biggest concern. As far as real fishing conditions go, I’m not concerned about the singles.

I figure between the wrap epoxy and number of guides supporting the load i see no problem. Yes storage and transport damage more rods than actual fishing.
