Both quotes are taken to the extreme for political purposes. I think that McCain/Plain have been taken to task much more often that Obama/Biden. So if Obama is getting grief for socialism, I dont have a lot of pity.

Ultimatley it comes down to who do you want to give your $ too? I dont make $ when the US governemnt is profitable. I make it when business is profitable via a 401k or direct investments. I'd rather see the corporations get tax breaks and invest in new things and get a bigger return which I could potentially profit from.
I understand taxes just sound bad, nobody wants to pay taxes but if they are so bad, why dont we just axe them altogether. We cant! The government, in one form or the other does provide you with clean carcinogenic free water, its provides the infrastructure, the police, firemen, schools, etc, etc... The government (in theory) provides the framework for corporations to make money and keeps them from exploiting you and others. The government makes sure that actors play by the rules.

Now we can argue all day about the rights and wrongs of the current government, but government, by and large, is what makes civil societies civil.

As two too people engaging in political dialogue I think we can both can agree that government should ensure civility, but I think we disagree as to the extent government should encourage the flourishing of its people. Taxes are the price we pay to enjoy the priviledge, but when taxes or government for that matter are unfair, thats something else entirely.

Corporations dont ensure civility nor do they encourage flourishing. The bottomline is profit. Would you like a private police force? You should visit some private prisons, its a booming business in Texas.

im not looking for morality from corporations. We have legislators to make laws to protect citizens. I just think $ is better spent having it in the free market vs. the government doling it out.

How about government doling out money into the "free market", say to save your 401k or your small businesses liquid assets. Is that o.k.?

those are good clips, but compare them to Obamas and I still think McCain is the lesser of two evils.
