I'm going to throw a few things out there in a poll

Which one means politicians are all crooked,power hungry ,self seeking mo-fos who dont have any idea about "the common man"? I vote for that one.

I think most politicians start off with good intentions but are corrupted by the system and the the already corrupt.

I agree 100%, they become conformed to the system and if they don't they won't survive...............

Politics is broken: Our politics(politicians) are a perfect refelction of us

it's convenient to blame the system but as it was set up it's a pretty good system, we entrust and send people of questionable character and intentions to participate in the system, often to satisfy our own agenda with little regard to their character and then wonder why it has been corrupted. Politicians engage in coruption and usurp power never intended for them to wield because we allow it and we make excuses for them if their transgressions happen to promote our world view. we now ask if the system should accomodate contemporary whims rather than if our contemporary whims are valid within the constraints of the system. the system is being corrupted and it's checks and balances are constantly being diluted and eroded...intentionally...and with approval in many instances

we only have ourselves to blame...or congratulate

Just curious: why is the working assumption that "politics is broken"? Would no one out there say that politics is politics so it can't be broken?

Politics (from Greek πολιτικός, politikos "of, for, or relating to citizens") is the process by which coercive power is legitimately applied. . It consists of "social relations involving authority or power" and refers to the regulation of public affairs within a political unit, and to the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply policy.

it's often a cynical ploy or knee jerk reaction to claim something is "broken" and then crown yourself fixer of all that is broken, particularly if your intention is to replace what you say is "broken" with your own alternative product.....this is why historical context to refute current claims of "broken politics" and "unprecedented partisanship" is important....it has always been this way.....it is just as delusionally utopian to claim that you can solve the partisanship of politics(Washington or anywhere else) as it is to claim that you can provide better living through bigger government and less individual freedom ....the parts of the world that fancy themselves further along in the utopian dream are highly partisan and engage in remarkably coarse rhetoric and of course the places where you see the least partisanship would be those under totalitarian regimes

In the spirit of what I believe the Founding Fathers intentions were (politicians representing The People not special interest groups), politics is very, very broken.

As long as there is a two party system it will always be broken, most always blocking what the other wants to do.

Why not just one neutral group bringing common good and sense to and for the people.

And lets not think of a third party.
