Fished land locked this afternoon ,,, another goose egg , and if that's not bad enough, wind came up, 2 hp motor bailed on me, too windy to row back to the truck,,,, had to call the wife for a ride back to the pickup, then drag the freaken tin boat through the woods and down a f n cart path,,, not a fun afternoon ..... :-(

Any tips for someone new to targeting them? Hope to get out and give it a try in the next couple of weeks.

They used to be everywhere but nowadays finding them is the real trick....at least around where I live. I've had the best success in mildly brackish ponds with a connection to saltwater (i.e., ponds that have an inflow only on the moon tides). They tend to school up and move around.

I use a large, gold, Thomas Colorado spoon and fish it slow and deep.

Back in the day the commercial guys would chum and fish for them with grass shrimp.

There used to be some real big ones in the salt ponds on nantucket. We dont have any LMB or SMB down there so less competition for them in the ponds.

I tried netting for the shrimp like days of old..... Zilch

I think the lack of eel grass has contributed to the lack of the grass shrimp

Back in the day there were some good runs in the headwaters of the Coles and Palmer Rivers. Maybe still? I know I would occasionally catch them while fishing for winter flounder in March.

Once upon a time we fished the Assonet River where 24 crosses it. Anyone fish there anymore?

Across from the Assonet Inn in that park they used to catch white perch.
