Getz got really famous with the cool sound and the bossa stuff, but you should hear him when he was young, shootin H and playing amazing bebop. In my top list of all time jazz albums is Stan Getz live at Storyville from 1951. Jimmy Raney on guitar. here is a clip, listen to these guys burn. Perfect playing.
The liner note show a picture of the gig - the entire audience was black, watching every note, in a small club and on stage where these clean cut white guys. It was a funny shot. Jimmy Raney burns on this. IMHO - this is how jazz was meant to be played!
