finding spline on 2pc rod

how do you locate the spline on a 2pc rod? i have the clemmens book, however it does not state how to find it on a 2pc.

Spine each piece seperately. The tip section is no problem and done as usual but on some surf rods , its very hard to find the spine on a stiff butt section. In that case , don't worry about the butt section (just do the best you can). The more flex , the more important it is to spine the butt section.
