Epoxy pre or post lip installation?

Just wondering how many epoxy before installing lips and how many epoxy after the lip has been installed.

If you epoxy after, how do you control where the epoxy levels to on the lip (tape).

I tend to epoxy plug (E-tex, tends to flow a lot more and longer than D2T), then install lip using epoxy and fill void with the remaining epoxy using a toothpick. I'm interested in some pick of plugs that were epoxied after installing the lip to see how the epoxy settled after spinning.

Thanks guys,

MS

MS I full assembly my plugs before epoxy.

Lips, eyes, swivels etc.

I like the look of it and for me it's easier to do.

I still do the flip method for drying etex.

I like the lip, acts as a lil handle to hold while I'm epoxying.

I'll try and post so close ups.

Me too... I fully assemble prior to eTex. The professional builders epoxy before they put the lips on but many spray their clear coats instead of brushing on etex

I put a piece of folded index card in the lip slot, epoxy the plug, pull the card out about 30" later, let the plug dry, then epoxy the lip in as a separate step before I wire the plug.

I will epoxy without hardware then wire, lip etc.

If I'm using plug in rocks or heavy duty I'll put 2nd coat etex ..put piece of straw over swivel etex and [I flip] final flip is lip up .
Makes for a good seal around lip and tail

Not sure if this allows plug to dry out [water gets trapped??
2 hook plugs would have more venting

One nice thing with epoxy is that even if you get some on a lip that you don't want you can use a single edged razor to clean it off. I do it both ways depending on the number I'm making and both work fine.

I assemble and then epoxy with a brush and spinner. It seems easier that way for me.
