Monk

You know, I just cannot stop listening to Thelonious Monk, and I have only Donald Fagan to blame for it (re. the Dan thread). Kind of cool to listen to the master and then the student at times. Probably the number one "desert island" music in my book. Shoud we start the desert island thread M?

Please do and post some of your favorite TM tunes too.

I feel the same way about Oscar Peterson. I could listen to him forever and the reason I am pushing my daughter at playing the piano. Wish I had started as an early age.

Well then, I am mostly awful at best of my favs since they are pretty much all great to me. I think some of the most interesting has been Camen Sings Monk since there are lyrics and vocals applied to songs that where previously written by Monk. I have not attached files before but here is a try at it. Carmen McRae sings Monk's Dream (I hope).

Looks like I need remedial attaching lessons. I was trying to attach an MP4, but that may be unacceptable.

That is she! Could not find any of the Monk cuts on the "toob" though. Maybe I can zip up some and attach. Protege' of Billy Holiday no less. That style and Monk's music is really hard to beat. Plus that album has an allstar cast.
