"Portly Anglers" alumni meeting

Well I joined the gym and have been forcing my fat A&^ to go there for the past 5 weeks so I thought I would see how the Portly anglers alumni were doing with the New Year just around the corner! So far I have not lost, in fact I think I may have gained a few (in muscle I hope!). In the past I have usually all but given up (again) by now however I feel more determinded then ever right now! Despite not seeing the results on the scale I have been feeling a lot better and dont want to puke when I tie my shoes anymore!

So inspire us, motivate, or cry on each others shoulders....whatever the outcome, lets hear it! How have you all been doing since the challenge ended?

I actually wasnt thinking of a re-do but curious how others had faired through the year........perhaps there could be a "Portly Challenge 2009" though I think I will only observe.....I have a new mind set this time and I am only putting pressure on myself to TRY and KEEP TRYING. The more I focus on the actual pounds the more I get discouraged! I am proud I went to the gym more this week than I did last instead of bummed because I didnt loose a single pound. So far I have kept up my motivation this way so I am sticking to that way of thinking!

Karl and others.....if you would like to offer up your "weight update" from the last year please do! We will not discriminate against those who are not "official Alumni"!

i was never in the contest but was trying to lose weight at the same time you all were. dropped 70 lbs with help of diet, excercise, and quitting drinking for 5 months.

then i moved to the keys. big mistake. as soon as i got there i went straight to Key West with the girl I was dating and got hammered. from that day on, I literally drank every single day and night for 2 months until i lost my chit and had to come home.

amazingly i only put on about 15 lbs, maybe less, and i was eating bar food and drinking constantly; living the most unhealthy lifestyle possible. but i came home and started working out again and now i'm back down to where I was.

so to summarize, i'm still doing well in the weight dept. thank you very much

I was sitting pretty much exactly where I was at the end (-25) of the event untill Mid November, then I started traveling and going to training etc.. that coupled with the holiday meant I gained back 10...

However, this was with almost no gym time... I just signed up at a planet fitness which has a location VERY close to my work, and also better hours at the location back at home... so Im gonna start cranking...

Still Portly here in Cumberland.

I remember the first time I heard portly used about me. While they were open I loved to buy my good cloths at Anderson-Little. They were nice material and fit me well off the rack. One day I went in and the guy measured me and said right this way. I followed him to a section where all the racks were labled "Portly" . I didn't buy anything that day and couldn't wait to get out of the store before someone saw me in the portly section. Oh well , with age comes wisdom and I guess shopping in the portly Dept is better than the "Fat $hit" dept which I may someday (already you say??? ) need.

One thing I noticed lately is that they are charging higher prices in the "Big and Tall" dept. They used to be the same prices , now they must charge for the extra yardage of cloth they have to use.

On the bright side , my shoe size has stayed the same for years.

Not as bad as the Stigma attached to buying "Husky" when you're a kid....
