Trashy statement.

Should the level of anger be the same when the insult is specific to one person as when a racist stereotype that insults a whole race of people is used?

You got a point - but give her credit she did cover all those of a specific sex.

The vile statement was specific to Ivanka and can't be applied to all women (unless she said "all woman are c....") while Barr's statement brought up a racist stereotype that people use to demean all blacks.

You're right - but it does manage to offend most women don't you think? I can't remember hearing that word on TV. I mean if Barr would have just called Jarrett a black C would she still have a job?

I def. think all women are offended when they hear the word - even if it is not directed at them. I think she prob. would have lost the job w/the use of the black part. Not sure of the c part.

On 2nd thought, I'll change my answer to the following:

I def. think all women are offended when they hear the word - even if it is not directed at them. I don't know if she would have lost the job w/the use of the black part. If she used the N word, she def. would have lost her job. Not sure of the c part.

I was going to mention her past use of twitter but now that Spence brought it up. Maybe Roseanne was told she was being given a short leash. She is an actress on a prime time show and Bee is on at like 11:00 so maybe they might get treated differently - but I'm just guessing here.

It's vulgar for sure but given how desensitized most of us are these days I think some believe you've got to go there to get any attention. Not quite the same as Barr's history of random racist, bigoted and conspiracy minded rants.

She'll get called out for stepping over the line, but if it draws attention to a legitimate issue (which it does) I don't think she'll lose any sleep. By the way, what's more vulgar, calling someone an offensive name or intentionally taking young children away from their families to make a political point?

You're talking about immigration? Didn't Obama like to brag about having a high number of deportations? And the heat Trump caught this weekend, for photos of immigrants in cages, turns out that happened during the Obama years.

But no, clearly you don't favor one sire over the other, heavens no...

This is a good discussion about our desensitized society - don't want to get sidetracked with politics. We have other threads for that. I'm a about a generation older so I'm just trying to get a handle on these comments and reaction and some perceived double standards about them. I don't watch Bee but from what I understand she also has a track record. I mean if I told a female coworker she was a C I'd probably be fired. BTW Bee has apologized - give her credit. To continue: For instance my generation always had a problem with the N word - society was always told you couldn't use it. But now it has become popular to use it IF you're black and talking about other African Americans. But if you're Caucasian and say it you're racist. These things just puzzle me.

Gee whiz John, when you put it that way, it almost makes the left look silly and un-serious.

Romney was a sexist pig because he kept resumes of talented women in a binder. But Samantha bee is a feminist hero. That makes all kinds of sense.

Tucker Carlson said last night that on election night, the left let out a primal scream that hasn’t stopped yet. In response to trump, they have moved a million miles to the left, and have become even uglier and less rational. Which is what trump wanted.

To say he is living rent-free in their heads, is a huge understatement. And nothing they could do, would strike his ego more. And they’re too stupid to see it.

He’s manipulating them like a puppeteer. he has Nancy pelosi defending MS-13 for Christ’s sake, and the gop has already produced commercials if her defending them against trump calling them animals. That’s not going to win democrats any votes that they don’t already have. Trump is playing them like a Stradivarius.

He is the GREATEST Con man of all time and it's not just the Dems he's conning.
Where did MS-13 start? Where did it spread to?
He has made the media into "fake" news because they don't say he is the greatest or always agree with him, except for State news (FOX)
It will be a great movie.

His ability to goad them into humiliating themselves, is unlike anything I have ever seen. A hypnotist could not do it better. He'll have Meryl Streep hosting a telethon for ISIS next week.

Not sure how it will effect a midterm where he's not on the ballot, that remains to be seen. But it's very entertaining.

It SHOULDN'T be close given the economy, and given how un-hinged the left has become. But it's very common for a new President's party to lose seats in the next midterm. Then, you can argue that none of the traditional rules apply to this guy.

So who the hell knows?

The GOP should gain seats in the senate, they got very lucky with which seats are up for re-election this time (many democrats are up in states that Trump won bog, they only won 6 years ago because they rode Obama's coattails).

Most people think the Democrats will make big gains in the house, but these are the same people who convinced me that Trump had no chance.

Who knows.

What I do know, is that the Democrats will do everything they can, to avoid talking about the economy. That issue is a big-time loser for them right now.

Show me some facts about the growth of the economy that prove how great it is, it is 2.2% in the first quarter of 2018
Many economists predicted that Trumps populist policies would have an initial effect on the economy, but without real substance in the long term will not produce growth.
Stock market values are not a big factor in the GDP.
Trade wars certainly won't help it and the rest of the world is starting to align themselves financially to succeed without the USA's involvement. In the long term that is the way we will fail, much like the British Empire.
Getting a new customer is 5 times as expensive as keeping one you have, so when american industry loses customers because of a trade war do you think that will help us prosper?
Date GDP Growth (%) President
2017 2.30% trump
2016 1.50% obama
2015 2.90% obama
2014 2.60% obama
2013 1.70% obama
2012 2.20% obama
2011 1.60% obama
2010 2.50% obama
2009 -2.80% obama
2008 -0.30% bush
2007 1.80% bush
2006 2.70% bush
2005 3.30% bush
2004 3.80% bush
2003 2.80% bush
2002 1.80% bush
2001 1.00% bush
2000 4.10% clinton
1999 4.70% clinton
1998 4.50% clinton

"Funny he didn't ask for Barrs firing "

If Barr didn't get fired, there would be no double standard. Given that Barr was fired first, a compelling case can be made that Bee should be fired. They didn't use the same exact language, but I don't see the logic by which attacking someone's race is a fire-able offense, but attacking someone's gender is not. Liberals like to claim that they are the ones who protect women. Why shouldn't that apply to Ivanka Trump? Because she's a republican.

She called Trump's daughter the worst word there is to describe a woman. Given what we know about Trump, he's not going to let that go. Bush would have let it go, not Trump (not Obama either, Obama was also very thin-skinned).

Trump and Obama are alike in a few ways - both thin-skinned babies with zero tolerance for criticism, both added a lot to the debt, both egomaniacs ("let today be the day we remember as the day the waters stopped rising and the planet began to heal", that's paraphrasing, but boy was Obama an egomaniac), who would never admit they were wrong and change course.

Bill Clinton tried liberal economics, it didn't work, so he let Newt Gingrich prepare a budget, Clinton signed it, and it worked amazingly well. Clinton was a scumbag like Trump, but a good president IMHO.
