That all depends on what you are looking for, what type of rod you use?? If you are looking for a certain weight spook you will have to play around with body size and with weighting. Do you plan on throwing them with a heavy rod say 10 feet long?? Maybe go a bit large with it. If a lighter rod, something say 9 feet....maybe on the smaller side? Not much help but as I say its all depending on what exactly you are looking for in a spook?

Search the site for pics of others spooks and go from there!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

If you feel inconvenienced because you can't get one locally there are at least a handful of sponsors here that sell them on-line. That's a lot more convenient than making your own. Not that I'm against plug building.

There are also sponsors here that sell kits....great way to get started. then you build a few and learn from them.

I believe #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&.com sells them as well as NJTackle.com and Capecodtackle.com

Do a search on the "Zara Spook"

That should give you all the info you need on a "Spook"

I think building your own is more rewarding than buying one, not saying that I don't support the sponsors, but its just a fun process to do it yourself.

make a couple of shapes and sizes to see what you like, put the weight in a couple different places, its a lot of fun to play around with it.

A basic spook shape is where the fattest part of the body is about 1/3 of the way back from the front, and then just taper both ends to a point, or close to a point. Start with that basic shape, and play around to see what works best for you.

These are the basic Spook shapes. Any shape other than this is altogether a different plug style

I like lighter more buoyant woods, like Basswood or Western Red Cedar. Add a little lead here and there and you will be good to go.
Buoyancy = action.

Yup, we like action okay.

Fashion a 5"-6" plug similar in shape to the Good Year blimp .. Weight 2/3 the way back with a 00 shot .. Paint pearl white with a splash of red .. You'll catch with that ..

salty, most people like to weight their spooks either in the tail, or in the belly, not both. How is the action on your kits? I would think it wouldn't be as lively because of the dual weight placement...
