Motorcycle Question??

Why is it when a guy is riding his bike alone, he seems to always be riding almost right along the median/centerline/double yellow? Why doesn't he ride right in the center of his lane??? I have bikers all the time so close to the line I think I am gonna clip them with my mirror???

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

I agree, and why do some bikers think its cool to pass in between 2 cars.

I used to do that, but on one wheel. Not sure I would have lived too long had I not sold the bike. Maybe will be different next time around. I don't know.
I miss my bike. Had a Honda Hurricane.

karl nailed it spot on. Bigfish the best thing my teacher taught me this week was to drive like you are invisible. Motorcycle operators generally divide a lane up into 3 imaginary lanes. No one lane is the best to ride in at all times. You have to practice what they call SEE..Search...Evaluate....Execute.

At any given time a bike operator should be looking 12 seconds ahead. No less than 4 second cushion around you.

Now I will say from my point of view...

If I was riding alone I would not ride on the yellow line or close to it if I can help it. Road condx will be the first and foremost judgement factor in lane position...many things you might not see could be in factor here...The object is to take away one link of the crash chain. In the few days I've been riding now I find it's preferable to stay in the middle 5-7' of the center of the lane...unless you get stuff like manhole covers, potholes, crowns, fresh pavement etc, large trucks, etc.

Were you driving into or out of a corner when you saw this? A common driving technique is "Outside Inside Outside" as it reduces the corner radius.

You would be surprised how much your vehicle driving would change if you rode a motorcycle. You gain a new appreciation for looking in your rear view mirrors when you're stopped at a traffic light now and people coming up behind you and you look at every single moving object more anticipating now too.

Yeah Scott it was in a curve.......I just felt like if there was an irresponsible driver in my seat maybe not paying attention, the guy on the bike was damn close to getting clipped! With all the cell phone jockeys around these days and all the room the guy on the bike had I felt he would have been better served being more in the middle of the lane.

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

You ride left or right no middle.Midlle of the lane has the oil look and see when it rains.I lived on my ride for over 10 years before i became a human being again.I always liked the look on peoples faces when i'd pass them in winter through the snow before the highway was plowed.

lu is 100% correct.....NEVER ride "behind" anyone...ride left or right to the guy in front of you...ALWAYS leave yourself an out, text books are fine, but nothing like working the road for real..be an a$$ on a bike and you'll live longer.
