Attn: Camera people

possibly looking to get another telephoto lens for my nikon d3000. i have a wide angle and a 55-200mm lens now. just asking if people have and/or use a 75-300mm often enough for me to think about buying one. maybe more for taking pictures of kids on the soccer field or city stuff that i can't get close enough to.

so.... recs on a zoom lens greater than 200mm would be appreciated.

Doesn't seem to me that going to 300mm would buy you much if you already have the 55 to 200. Now a 200-400 or a 300-800 would be significant but you are looking at huge bucks.

yeah, once you get to 400mm and more you're talking well over 1000K for that. that's out of the question for me.

that was what i was wondering. is 200 - 300 a significant difference to make the purchase worthwhile?

Not for me but if you have a specific need and that would put you over the top then maybe. Maybe you can go to a store and see if the extra zoom from 200 to 300 really gets you what you want.

Once I had the 50-200mm zoom , my next goal was a very low F stop lens at like 28mm. Also break the bank costly as that F stop gets below about 1.8.

With kids sports you can usually get close enough that the extra focal length might be enough. That being said, I'm not sure you'd get enough use from it to make it worthwhile. Less expensive zooms also don't have the glass.

is your 55-200 the "kit" lens if so its decent. You wouldn't be gaining anything with the 300 without spending big $$$ on a low f stop lens. Also its harder to get good action shots on the dx sensor vs fx full frame in lowish light with a zoom.

yeah, both my lenses came with "the kit" during a Hunts Photo Sale they always throw once a year. i was looking at the same kind of nikon lens but the 75-300mm version. or it might be 85-300mm. retail i think it ran for 395.

this is what you and I are looking for;

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens 2185 B&H Photo

but at almost $2500 is not gonna happen. If you really got your pants in a bunch over a 300 zoom rent one and try it out but I think your wasting your money oh and go over to dpreview they have alot of forums to choose from and a functioning search. I say that cause those guys sling some arrows if you ask inane questions that have been asked a hundred times so if your thin skinned watchout otherwise someone will point you in the right direction

Check out the Tamron B008. Just make sure the Nikon model works with your camera... I have one on my T3i and it's really nice...

18-270mm with their version of IS and super quiet.

I got mine from Tristate Japanese retail version for $100 less then US version.. Only difference is that the box and serial # have the E code... Same lens...
