Skiing 07....anyone got any rec's for Utah?

I am probably going to go to Utah this winter and need some rec's from someone who has gone there to ski.

Should I stay in Park City or Salt Lake city or in a place near one of the resorts? I would like to ski a 2 or 3 places while I am there. Got any suggestions? I will have my wife and 2 kids with me. I don't mind driving but I don't want to have to drive really far...like more then an hour to get to a resort.

Alta (if everyone skis and no snowboards) or Snowbird

The way the early season has been so far I'd reccomend Colorado over Utah at the moment.

UTAH = Mormans and their laws.

Last year was a banner year for colorado. I'd recomend summit county where you have a number of great resorts to choose from. Steamboat is another great colorado mountain and about 2-3hrs from summit but worth checking out. Very kid friendly mountain.

If you go a little north to Wyoming... Jackson hole is sick but i believe they are working on their tram this year so you might want to wait until you can get the express 4k vert to the summit. Up the road you have grand targie which is also a great mountain and if you do back country, you have the teatons. I've had neck deep champange powder there and earned my turns.

You can also head a little further west to Tahoe which is another great spot.

I guess I just can't stand Utah in general. There are allot of other great places. BC... don't even get me going.

I do colorado most but thats just because I used to live there.

Sounds like fun. I haven't been out there in a while.

If you stay in Park City, you can ski The Canyons, Park City and Deer Valley without leaving the valley plus there's plenty to do after the lifts close.

Snowbird and Alta are 45 min to an hour depending on weather and traffic. I haven't been to Solitude and Brighton but they are close as well.

Roger that.
We are all skiers and have been going to Co for the last few winters. We have not been to Utah. I have heard alot about Alta's conditions and DeerValley's upscale feel. It is more difficult for me to get to Utah and more expensive but I would like to do it at least once and ski a few resorts.
Any good links to schedule a trip? (Or suggestions to stay in Park City)I am thinking a park city stay and a daily drive to a few places. I could do a web search just wondering what you guys use.

  1. I dont know how the one arrived where it did so I am not going to kill myself learning how to delete. I do Utah in warm weather, hiking Moab area and down towards Arches, Canyonlands and so on, and love it. Clean state, nice people. Co-worker owns a condo in Breckenridge and ski's, says it the balls.
