Camera Recommendation

I will admit I have NO idea about these but here is what is needed as I know some of you are photo guys. Point and shoot for my wife, pictures of kids mostly so the need is something I assume that has fast speeds to capture them either in action or the one out of 20 where they are both smiling and eyes are open. You guys tell me about what price I should expect, I dont want to break the bank but I also dont want an el cheapo. Was thinking I might get a cyber Monday deal...

Thanks in advance
JJ

You might want to go with a low end SLR as a point and shoot will have a delay in the shutter resulting in a lot of missed shots. They always seem to have a few second delay and then snap the picture where an SLR is a direct shutter snap. No wiating for the picture to take.

Thanks, any recommendations? How bulky are they? What you are describing is one of the main issues with our old camera.

Unfortunately they are bigger and more bulky. This is one of the biggest draw backs, however, the ability to change the lens to a zoom or wide angle is a big plus.

As far as a recommendations, I am a Canon guy.
